Yes I know all about waranties and such but that is not an issue; I need to know if anyone has installed a brake on an 05 auto, I think i read that the ecm ports are disabled however the Cummins/Mopar literature has it described even for the 05's. Does anyone have first hand experiance to tell me if they are or are not truely enabled otherwise I have to get a pedal switch and make it all manual control. Thanks for the help...

The story goes... . the '05 is e-brake compatible once it gets a software update. That update is not availible yet. There was a guy here whose dealer installed the brake on an '05 auto assuming it would work. It did not. You will have to go with an aftermarket trans controller for the lock-up.

Yup, without a lock-up switch to lock-up the torque converter the exhaust brake is worthless. Also can do damage to your transmission without the converter being in lock up.

I have a pac brake on my 05 auto. It is not competely worthless though I never use it except to test it. It WILL slow the truck down better than stock and shoud keep it a slower, safe speed on a long grade with the transmission in downshift. My plan is to have it available if I need it under tow with a long grade in RPM/gear to lock the converter. I dont think I'll really care about a waranty if the truck is runaway.

Also, the dealer will be required to prove that the brake caused the failure and this failure should have a very clear signature involving the thrust washer and heat. I also have legal insurance :p and failing that, I will replace the transmission with a HD built 48RE or allison.

Glad to hear there is a software upgrade thatmight make my setup work better.

Right now, there is a micro-switch under the throttle that turns on a compessor when the throttle is off and a kick-panel mounted switch turned on. The panel mounted switch also disables the cruise control.

Maybe the 48re are different than the 47re. When I bought my Banks exhaust brake I wasn't told I needed a controller to lock up the converter & I thought this thing isn't working very well. After some research & realizing that every time you let off the throttle the converter unlocks, there is no hold back presure. After 18,000 miles I was having transmission problems (torque converter slipping). Had my transmission rebuilt bt DTT in Abottsford Canada with a contrller installed & what a difference.

I'm not sure about the differences on the 48RE. ATS has just released thier 05 controller. With the amount of mess the installers made when putting on my PB, I am not looking forward to another experience with them. Hopefully, the software upgrade will negate the need for a controller... .

Thanks guys, but my question is more really whether or not the ECM sends the on/off signal, I am very familiar with the operation of the lockup on these trucks and you do not need a controller to engage lockup in tow/haul mode the converter stays locked up. You can feel when the transmission is locked or not and you can tell when it is not and the brake is on as it has a completely different sound from the brake. I work for a deal so not worried about the warranty side of things so much just cannot find any info on dealerconnect regarding the ecm outputs... I had a DTT setup on my 01 and loved it, Next year I will be doing the same on my 05; they are a great company with a great products. Oo.
