Ok all, I'm a little lost here...

Just picked up my K&N RE-0880 filter, and can't really figure on how it installs... . ie, there is nothing inside the airbox to clamp it on to, therefore making me think that you totally remove the stock airbox and put it directly on the hose... this right?

Sorry for the ignorance... . somedays I wonder about myself.

Thanks, Josh

You remove the stock airbox completely.

You need a piece of exhaist pipe, or PVC pipe to clamp the end of the black intake hose to the filter itself. Don't install it without something to "support" the clamp of the hose on the filter. It will not seal correctly.

Once installed you just tuck it into the cornor of the engine compartment, it will fit rather nicely.

Thank you guys very much... . I will go out and find me a piece of pipe right now to do it with.

Thanks again. Can't wait to here more turbo :D :D :D

Later, Josh.

Josh;

I (with a slight variation of the 0880--it has filter media on the end also), made a simple "cradle" bracket to attach the set up to the existing bolts left over when you remove the stock air box. I wasn't happy just laying it there. I used some 1 inch strap with the ends turned out and drilled to fit over the existing bolts and used a large hose clamp to hold the filter neck to the bracket. Then with 1/8 inch aluminum, I made a simple heat deflector which also attaches to the air box bolts and with a curve to match the K & N, fits between the filter and the turbo.

Vaughn - a better air filter may be my next mod - but not sure the K&N discussed above is as big as what I'd really like - the BHAF is probably great - but haven't seen any installations to get an idea as to how "proffessional" they look - and how well they are weather-protected...

How do you like your K&N - and do you feel it provides any better engine efficiency? I'm only interested in a filter improvement that LOOKS as good as it (hopefully!) performs!;) :D

The new TDR issue tested all the filters were tested and the RE-0880 flowed more then double what the BHAF did. If you hav'nt seen the issue, its worth checking out.

Well, it's in....

Right after I got the responses on here as what to do, I went out and put the 0880 on. I took a length of old 4" aluminum sprinkler pipe (wheel-line size), and cut a 2-1/2" piece off with a chop saw. I then ground the ends down smooth, and polished the entire thing with a wire wheel on the bench grinder. Next, I put the pipe down into the K&N, almost all the way... maybe only 1/8" is sticking out. This made for a really snug fit down where the K&N's 'throat ' is small. Next, put the hose over the filter end, and worked it all the way down to the base, so it too was very snug. I then tightened the hose clamp down, and now have a very secure connection that I'm not in any way worried about. The filter fits right back onto a small piece of aluminum in the corner of the engine compartment quite nicely. To hold it there, I used two 8" zip-ties and secured it to the aluminum in the back. It won't budge, and IMHO, it looks very good.

Gosh, at first I thought the turbo whine would be too much, but already I love it. It sounds just too good cruising around town with the windows down, listening to her sing... :)

Thanks for the help guys. Someday I'll build a bracket to hold it in place.

I'm PRETTY sure it's the RE-0880 and yeah, I just put it in the place of the stock air filter. What, no good? Seriously, is this a problem?

Ummm Ya if its the Reo880 then ya its a problem. Is it cone shaped or square? If its square then its not the re0880. If its cone shaped then it is. If that the case follow the instructions above and get rid of that factory box!:D I use to have a re0880 but changed to a BHAF just so I didnt have to worry about oiling it. I do think I got a bit more flow out the the reo880 though, but its not a biggie.

This is the RE0880 with the pre filter on it. Also note the turbo heat shield. :D It's a good idea to put some kind of a shield between the turbo and filter to keep the hot turbo from heating up the intake air too much.

Gary;

I like my set up fine, but I have no way to objectively evaluate the effectiveness or how well it flows the air. It looks just like the picture posted above, except for the bracket I have it clamped to and that hardly shows. I also use the same pre-filter

Do those of you with the 0880 have filter media on the end, or is it blanked off as I was told when I bought the one I have----sure wish I could recall the number---I am sure I wrote it somewhere, but can't find that either.
