Went ahead and ordered the full front kit for my truck and it's supposed to be here Fri. I'm pretty good with working on the truck but I've never really messed with the brakes before. If one of you could give me a little direction as to what to expect it would be much appreciated. Being a '99, the rotors don't just slide off like later years... . are they a pain to get off? Any assistance on anything that could teach me something would definately help out.

I'm not sure what came in the kit other than probably pads and rotors. But i thought the rotors on the 3/4 tons just popped right off. If this is the case you should put a light film of anti-seize between the hub face and the rotor (easier to get the rotor off next time) Make sure you lube the caliper slides, and pad slides with a good grease (i use synthetic slide lube)



You may want to flush the old brake fluid out of the system with clean fresh fluid.

If they havent been off in a while, eg, more than 25-30k, theyre prolly rusted into the steering knuckles. I just did my rotors and ball joints, and I rented a lifesaving tool. Its a 4" hydraulic ram called a Porto-Power made by blackhawk (i think). I used it to push the 4 hub bolts out of the knuckle, well only two bolts, but in a diagonal pattern. Used a 2" 3/8 extension and a socket to sit on the bolt, then put the 4" ram (7" extended) on the opposite side of the hub and pushed on the knuckle. The extension mated up with the rotator stop in the knuckle, and pushed the bolt out thru a see-saw effect. If yer sitting in front of the axle, its the upper left and the lower right that works best. Using this method, I removed the hub assembly in less than 5 minutes, with no sweat lost. Be sure to spray some penetrant on all bolts, and the axle so it doesnt stick to the bearing and seperate it (baaad) Definetly get some good anti-sieze for the hub to knuckle contact.
