Best Battery?

Are all Pac Brakes the same?

I am new to the TDR but what I am reading has been very helpful and it has been a great deal of fun. This is also my first Dodge diesel truck. My son and I installed a Pacbrake and AFE airfilter system today. Took us the better part of the day but it was quality time.

My question is, I have the pyro and boost gauges on the way. I also noticed the new Pacbrake exhaust elbow is drilled and tapped. Can I insert the probe for the Pyro at this location instead of drilling the exhaust?

Oh my vehicle, early 2001, 3500, HO, 6-speed.

Thanks,

Tony

I'm new to this too. I would try the search feature, there are a TON of pre / post pyro discussions.

As I see them goes something like this:

Pre

Better for running conditions (hauling, etc) since you are measuring what you are trying to measure

Post

Better for cooling down the turbo for shutdown since you are measuring what you are trying to measure

I'm going to do both. I probably will not do a significant bomb any time soon, but I tow a 5th wheel and want to know the pre for towing and the post for cool down.

There are tons of threads on this, and threads on using one pyro gauge to measure both using a switch to choose what you want to measure. There are threads on the size of the pyro (1/8 vs 1/4), a lot of the vendors have white papers on where and how to do the drilling, There are threads on getting the wiring into the cab (as the wire is a special type).

Good luck, and what I think I can offer is to do some reading as these guys are extreamely smart and have a LOT of good tips.

In the earyly days of my surfing the TDR Alot of people were doing things alot different than now. 350 horsepower was still in the future. Now I would guess that over half of us who post are at least 350 hp. At first everyone was installing post turbo. Now I wouldn't run a truck without a pre-turbo probe. I just bought a 2003 for my wife yesterday and I just ordered an EGT guage. I will have to pull the exhaust manifold off to do the install but it will go in Pre-turbo. With your 2001 you can install it pre-turbo very easily. Do a search on "thermocouple install" and I think you will find a gazillion posts. Good luck and welcome. Greg
