I'm installing a Scotty II that I bought from Diesel Power Products. Has anybody had trouble getting the plastic cone on the end of the filter to stay in place once you button everything up. The way I see it, your shoving it into a space that is tapered on one side, so it has no choice but to slip off the end of the filter. I've tried it at least 20 times. If you put it all together and connect it up, you would never know, but as you slip the hose over the turbo you can hear it pop loose. Each time I've been real careful and thought it stayed, but went ahead and pulled it, and it is cocked to the side. That's actually blocking airflow. I ended up not using the cone, but that sucks, seeing how I paid $250 for this. Regardless it looks like it will suck lotsa cool air.

I have the clear scotty, so I can see what goin on with the cone when I install it. I also have the UNI filter version. I have not problem at all installing it. I put a little bit of excess oil on the end of the filter when I oil it, and the end cap thingy seems to stay on fine. I have found that depending on where I place the "nubs" of the cone with relation to the housing, I can change the distance the filter goes into the housing. There is one poition that will cause the cone to get crooked and come off, and there is another position that makes the filter furthest back in the housing, allowing more air from the cowl.

hope that helps some.

no problem here, hmmm maybe you have a problem with the filter, like you said, if i paid 250 bucks, i want it to work.

Okay, I need to pull it back off and try different rotations of the cone. Thanks! The noise isn't bad at all. I had a K&N in the stock box and it was almost as loud.

People posting studies and results like this need to back it up with apples to apples comparisons and testing. Theres always a lot of room for error with 'testing' like what is in that 'paper'. Theres a vendor on here and other sites that posts it all the time to scare people off from the UNI or K&N and other filters to garner sales of the afe proguard 7. The proguard is a great filter but this study smells.

It does not state that they are not using a dual stage UNI like I use in the Scotty Air 2 and it does not state it has been tested on our trucks. I feel that this test paper is the result of much more then scientific study.

Highest reading I got with SINGLE STAGE uni filters with over 20K on them for silicon was 7ppm. Thats one PPM more then what I got with the stock box.

Thats running down gravel roads behind someone, eating dust, some were in Baja and they also took rain and snow and had none of their oil on them to catch any dirt. I literally beat these filters in anyway possible and got great results in filtration. The filters in my shaker are single layer and are exposed to all elements more so then any other kit on the market.

When I get feedback from real world users of my products or other products and compare them to the test paper, I really begin to wonder what it was really post for.

sljohn, I don't get over here as much as I would like to. If you still have a problem, email me or PM me and we will get it worked out.

Thanks for the input scott. I kinda was kinda leary of the test, and I was acutally surprised that you could get a uni for the d-max anyhow.

I have always ran UNI's on my bikes, and through many desert races never had a single failure do to dust, and never had any dust in any of the motors that I could see.

I did have one failure quite a while back on a "experiment" that had a YZ490 motor in it, and a K&N filter. I contributed the seizure to the K&N because it was DIRTY inside, but who knows, I could have got a defective unit too.

I hope I didnt make it seem like I was bashing the scotty II/UNI, as the thought never crossed my mind.

Never took it as bashing. I have seen that 'paper' floating around and it surfaces from one vendor whenever there is a filter thread. Some of their numbers are highly suspect and all tests have room for error.

I think what happens more often then not is people read something like that and see the filter brand they have or are considering and run for the hills because of it. I've seen this with other products too. Someone with 'knowledge and experience' points out phantom flaws in a competitors products and because they may have an established name, its considered gospel. Thats not always true. Oils, transmissions, filters etc... they all take the scrutiny. Its when its not apples to apples that I speak up about it.

My apologies if I implied anything as well.
