I just got my Borgeson two-joint steering shaft. How big of a job is this? Anymore difficult than changing the plugs on a '98 F-150 4. 6L??? #ad

If you don't know how much of a pain that job is, don't try to find out yourself - you better have smaller hands than I do!

Way bigger, I changed the plugs in a 4. 7 in 2 hrs. without donating any blood to the project. The same could not be said about the steering shaft. Better read all of the post that you can find on this subject.

Key points #1 If you hammer on the roll pins use a roll pin punch, &

PB Blaster before trying to drive the pins out.

#2 If you hammer on the roll pins your steering box will

probably develop a leak.

#3 If you hammer on the upper roll pin you can damage the

steering colum.

Other than these things it is a piece of cake, oh yeah the roll pins might as well be welded in as hard as they are to get out! :-laf

Thanks for the info. The shop where I'm having my lift installed quoted me $600 for the lift and steering shaft install. Not too bad IMO.

Ok, I NEED the name of that shop... even if I cant get the "long eyelashes" discount! (Maybe I could get my niece to take the truck in... ). That seems like a really good price... is that the skyjackers?

Thanks,

John

I don't think he could see me batting my eye lashes over the phone! ;)

Yes, that's for the two-link steering shaft and the Skyjacker 4" lift. 5 Star Automotive/Kodiak Off Road was recommended by at least 5 people (that I can remember) on AK 4x4 Network.

It's the type of job where if you've done one, it's easy after that. It can be tricky first time around. You have to be careful getting the old joint off the steering box... it's real easy to pry/hammer too hard and mess up the input shaft seal on the box. A leaky steering box is no fun.
