Looks like I'm going to have to remove the batterys and trays to access the connections. This right? I've looked for a wireing diagram in the service manual but doesn't seem to be one in my on -line version.
If I've got to do the removal maybe I'd better get some better bulbs before hand rather than use the stock ones and replace them later?

On my '98. 5 it was not necessary to remove the batteries. It's tight but doable. The Summit harness could have been a little longer. As I recall its length made the routing a challenge. A good mod. ph

It depends on the size of your appendages. I was able to R&R the connectors w/o removing the batteries. I ran the cable across the top of the rad support along side the battery cable. Lastly I extended the ground wires just a bit so I could connect to existing ground points.
If you have factory fog lights you may have to jump out the fog lite relay in the PDC because the new headlight relays operate with such low current that the high beam relay will turn on. This was discussed extensively about a year ago so hopefully its still in the archives.
Good luck with your project.

You need to get extra relays NOW. I put one of these harnesses on mine and now a relay is bad. Cannot get a replacement.

The harness they sold me is different one. I think it was AMC-509103. It uses a different relay than the one you link us to.

fox,
check your post 'aftermarket headlight harness' on Monday. Eric said he would post relay part number and where he got them there. I would like a spare set also. Tom

Since two harness part numbers are involved I'll list my original relay info and then the relay part number I used to replace the failed original.

Replacement Part Relay had this on the relay:

If I remember correctly I had to trim a plastic tab to make it fit--but it works.

To buy some time while finding a replacement, the originals can be swapped if only one has failed--one operates high beam, the other the low beam. I also took both original relays apart and cleaned the contacts and re-installed. It has been working for a year or so now. As mentioned in the other thread moisture seems to be the culprit. Hope this helps. ph

Ok this is what I used for my harness that I got from summit for my 96.

They are Santech # mt0366 , also Borgwarner R4768 which has a metal case instead of plastic. Only drawback is that neither has a mounting tab, but the Santech has a rubber boot type thing around it that will accept a metal/plastic insert. Also found another AC Delco # E1729 that is like the others but is more $$$$. I have used this # as well before finding the Santech part. More on the BorgWarner, http://www.bwdbrand.com/web_app/catalog/bwd_bgbulk.aspx?strSearch=R4768.
