Hi all, Looking for a little help. I'm going to install a Transgo kit in my 96 47RE I have read on these forums from time to time little tips and tricks on the installation but they are scattered all over and hard to find. So I am asking if you have done this if you could post anything that may help me. What size drill you used and anything that will help clarify the instructions, a little confusing on first read. My engine and transmission are stock, I'm just looking for better shifts.

Thanks to any that take the time to reply.

I just did mine. All the drill bits come in the kit, actually, everything you need. Read the directions at least 6 times, then go slow and pay attention. I tore my VB all apart and cleaned it, and then did the kit as I assembled it. I was shocked, it took me about 4 hours to do it total. This was with the VB already out, as I was rebuilding the trans too. (not installing either). Watch out for the small extra ball when you separate the VB. It shows it in the directions, but not in the FSM. #@$%! I ended up splitting the VB 3 times because I missed stuff on assembly. I turned the pressure screw about 3 turns, and it shifts pretty hard, almost too hard.

Joe, I installed everything, and my 3-4 shift is kinda soft. Any ideas?

Hi Pete,

Do you have a rapid/harsh drive engagement? Are all the shifts hard except 3-4?

If you're sure you didn't goof up anything in the valve body, then I woud suspect you didn't set up the overdrive clutch clearance correctly when you rebuilt it. A lot of guys skip it because they don't have the special tools to do it. You can throw a pressure gauge on it if you want to doube check the VB.

Can you reference a web site or some other source for using the pressure gauge and what the pressures should be? I have the FSM, would they be in there?

Joe, it hits hard and shifts hard, except for 4th. I thought it hit 4th harder before, but I'm not sure. I didn't do the OD clearance, I figured it would be ok. No guarantees on the VB! ;) I turned the pressure down 1/2 turn when I changed the filter at 200 miles, and think I should have gone a little more. There were a few metal flakes on the filter when I changed it. I got nervous but my buddy said it's probably just from break in.

Floyd, there are pressures in the FSM, and some good trouble shooting too.
