Ok I'm am installing a used head on a 97 but do not know what year model it came off of. I'm almost done putting the truck back together and I get to the thermostat housing and the small lip on my 97 gasket will not fit inside the hole on the cylinder head. I've called two local parts houses and they all show the same part #'s for 94-97 trucks, I can't call Cummins because I don't have engine numbers for 94-96.

Can someone shed some light on wht the possibel problem might be?

I do know this cylinder head came off of a pickup, just not what year model pickup.

Thanks,

I was just reading in issue 20 that 180 hp engines and 215 hp engines had different cylinder heads. What the diffence is I don't know (besides the camshaft).

Are you sure the head came off a truck? On the early industrial 5. 9's, the hole in the head was smaller. When you get a new thermostat, the kit has a template in it to grind the hole bigger so the 'stat will fit. By the time the trucks came out, the heads were revamped. Unless it's an old aftermarket head.
