can you just use a push button switchinstead of a hobbs for nitrous?like in the fast an the furious they had an arming switch an the red push button that way you get juice when you want it you dont have to wait for a certain psi. you want it at 10 psi or 25psi... ... sounds better then the hobbs that you have to screw w/ to get it adjusted right! make sense?turn on switch then push the go button hold it down til your happy! :-laf

if you had a window switch so that the juice wouldn't hit below like 1900rpm or so and you had no AFC, what would happen if you just matted it on the highway and tagged it w/ a few hundred ponies of juice? assuming the turbine shaft would survive of course... sounds like it might be fun... turbo would probably spool up pretty quick :p

i know you dont want it to soon, thats the beauty of the push button. when you are at the psi or rpm you want just hold your little red button. just dont push it until you have boost built of course. with the hobbs you have to wait until you reach the set point. if you have it set at 25psi you dont get spray till then BUT WITH THE BUTTON ANYTIME YOU WANT!i understand the safty issue of the hobbs you just have to be careful. i am going to ditch the computer controller the kit came w/ cause it works only under wot, an use a push button/arming switch system.

well, I believe some of the theory is that if you don't have any boost on the gauge, you might not have any fuel available and when you tag it, it'll just put out the fire and kill the truck...

I'm wondering what would happen if you just set your truck up w/ a loose AFC so that when you mat the throttle, you've got LOTS of fuel... run a window switch and a WOT micro-switch and hang on! :-laf

i use a push button on mine , I usally floor it around 1500 rpm then once the boost starts to rise i hit the button usally the lower the RPM u use the harder it hits , its not as hard of a hit if im over 2000 RPM

Hobbs r ok but iv seen quit a few fell in Water kits a TPS switch is nice If i had a auto i would have one of those or u can buy the NOS controllers and get real fancy :)

i just wired my solenoid directly to a switch so when its flipped up it dumps out all its worth. but like said before youve got to watch the boost.

Sick Boy - Think about this - you set the Hobbs where it's "best" for your trucks performance. So if you wan't it to come in @ 15 psi or 20, whatever works best. Then you don't have to remember or what if you miss the button? or, hit it too soon? I'm still a big fan of the Hobbs - just wish we would have not lost contact w/JetPilot when we were doing your install. Then all would be done. Have you decided on what gears to go with yet?

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

joe, not yet. i have trans issues AGAIN all of a sudden. i seems to be shifting quicker from 1st to 2nd an there is like a surge before it graps 3rd :-{} . . i emailed scott an bill last night im waiting to hear back. this is bulls**t! wish i had the cash i would rip that piece of s**T dtt out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ask Dockboy why not to use a button..... Problem is we just aren't quick enough, either on or off. Too early and you can destoy stuff, too late a let off and you can destroy stuff. By using a part that cost less than $30 you can save thousands in damaged parts. If you need a part number for the switch let me know.

Doug

Doug told me about using a hobbs switch years ago and I kept that in mind when I set my little system up. I turn mine on at no less that 20 psi and go up from there, anything less than 15 will just blow the fire out, when it does come on the truck is power sliding down the road anyway.

I can see a reason the have a button say on the steering wheel, but not for activation. Also you can tune the turn on to different conditions at the track, say up it to 30-40 psi for turn on. I like the tuner idea better but don't have one yet..... it's on the wish list.

Jim

Jet Pilot - He has the switch it's just a matter of installing it. We';ll see if we (Kelly4463) and i can't get him up our way and get it in for him. I agree with the switch and just wish we would have done it in the first place. Live and learn.

Sick Boy in the mean time leave the controller hooked up till we can do the hobbs.

I used a 25 psi hobbs so I can still launch at 15-20 pounds before the nitrous hits. The TPS switch is a bad idea. It can and will see wide open throttle with no boost and activate the system. Plus I have a few other things going on when launching like kicking it out of 4X4 and locking the tc. On a 1. 6 60 foot it could get kind of busy if you start adding other things to do. :-laf I can't wait for the track to open next Spring so I can try it out on the clocks along with more fuel.

How in the heck do you get it out of 4x4? I wasn't aware that you could disengage the transfer case under load?? I just run mine through the traps in 4wd.

Oh, and a Hobbs switch set at 25 psi is what I use also!!

Mikey

My trap mph is always higher if I kick it out. Something has to be dis-engaging for that I would think. I'm just not sure if it's the front axle disconnect or the transfer case.

So under WOT 4X4 launched and @ the 60' mark you can just pull it our of 4X without letting off the throttle?

I'm a little ways into 2nd gear when I shift out of 4X4. I think I'm going to put my mystery switch on the floor via an old headlight dimmer switch for next year also.

mcoleman - I've never drag raced my truck yet - need more bombs - oh yeah! Anyway, the thing I want to know is "So you're all wound up in 1st gear and it shifts into 2nd then shortly later you can just "pull" the transfer case out of 4wd?, without letting off the throttle?" Is it willing to come out? Or do you have to yank like hell and it comes out? Or - sorry for all the questions, it's just that I've been trying to figure out the 4wd launch thing and if it stays in 4wd all the way through the traps. I've always thought "Man that's alot of stuff spinning real fast at trap speeds of 90+?? mph. Especially for those guys turning 13. 1 at like 105 mph.

So tell me exactly how it goes . . .
