OK,

for those who have complained about the high beam indicator, here is what I did. First I tried 6 layers of Scotch Magic tape = too much lite yet. Then went for 4 layers of tape and a piece of tissue = OK for me (about as dim as the dash lites at 1/3 on). Each person will probably have their own "level" so you may need to test to find out how much to "dim" the lite. You may want to adjust the brightness of the odometer display to what you want the indicator to be, at night, before you do the following steps. It will give you something to compare the light with after you tape it up.

Tricks to removing Instrument panel:

1. there are 2 screws that hold the outer bezel (after removing the lite switch panel and the center panel) above the steering wheel, use a short phillips, and then pull it off.

2. the 2 top screws that hold the instrument panel in just need to be loose as they have slots and the panel will slip down to clear them. The bottom 2 need to be removed. CAUTION: have the steering wheel at the lowest position and put something to protect the face of the panel over the edge of the steering wheel cover so when you lay the panel on top of the steering wheel you dont scratch the face (didnt do and had to polish).

3. using a screwdriver and looking over the top edge of the panel, push the tabs down and pry the connectors out with the screwdriver (unless your hands are small enuff to get behind and hold/pull them out  ) . Now you can remove the panel and work on a padded surface.

4. using a #15 torx, remove all the OUTSIDE screws (8 of them that hold the face on) and then pull the panel off the face. Do not seperate the clear face and the mounting - no need to.

5. CAREFULLY pull the top of the bezel /instrument face apart in the top center and you can "slide" the tape/tissue down over the center hole. Remove it and trim to fit so it doesnt cover the speedo/tach areas. Replace and ensure it sticks to the lower center hole ( the upper left is the airbag lite and the upper right is the seat belt lite). If you want to "dim" these lites, now is the time to do them.

6. to test the lite at this point (w/o the face) GENTLY place it on the steering wheel and reconnect all 3 plugs. Turn on the lites and check the high beam indicator against the odometer lighting. If satisfactory, remove instrument panel and reinstall the face and reinstall all the other parts in reverse order.

7. I installed an "o" ring over the reset and very carefully got it thru the first hole. Then used the panel to move it near the tip and then lowered the face down to the instrument display so that the "o" ring prevents dirt from getting inbetween the panels. Did this on the y2k and it did help a lot. Dont have the size as this was one I had laying around. The inside dia is a little bigger than the tip as the shaft is tapered.

Any questions, please post here and will try to "clarify" for better understanding.
