Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Instrument Panel Plug

Can someone with a service manual send me a pin diagram or listing of the pins in the plug for the instrument panel and overhead console on a 2001?



I've been getting an intermittent loose connection down there that blanks the panel and causes a P1687. I just wanted to check all the vital pins in the plug to make sure they are tight.

Do a search. I seem to recall reading something about this problem, just can't recall what the problem was or the solution.



I'm sure someone will pipe in.

Well, no luck on the search for 1687... but the problem has changed somewhat.



I used to be able to unplug and reconnect the plug and the problem would go away. Today, it's coming back more frequently. Seems like each time I start the truck it will start erroring out for a little while, then it clears up.



Right now it's throwing P1693, P1694, P1687. All the gauges will stop registering and I'll get 'No Bus" in the odometer window and "Ccd" in the overhead display.



Anyone seem these symptoms??

Those are referring to the "Chrysler Collision Detect" data bus; it is akin to Ethernet. Most of the instrument cluster (and overhead console, it seems) are told what to display via messaging over the CCD bus. If they aren't detecting the bus, they'll complain. And the PCM will log a fault when it can't communicate with the various 'peripherals' it expects to see.

1693: Flt in Comp Module
1694: No Engine Bus Msgs
Don't have a 1687 in my SM ('98).

I would suspect one of the PCM connectors on the firewall first. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

Check the ECM connector behind the fuel filter housing. I had a '99 setting the 1694 code once, and it was due to a bad connection at the ECM plug. Turns out it was just a little loose.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I checked out all the connections and everything seemed to be firmly connected. It had finally got to the point yesterday that whenever I started the truck the panel did it's best impression of a Christmas tree... and stayed that way while i drove a few miles.



I took it in today to be checked out. When I dropped it off, they suspected some corrision on the pins in one of the plugs. But after checking it out, it turns out that it is the instrument panel on its way out.



So now I'm stuck in a Phord while I wait for the new panel to arrive and be put in. Well, at least it's a truck and not one of those little matchbox cars.
