Then that would be the ENGINE AAT Sensor between the Air Box and the Turbo, correct?
It’s not called that on this motor, can’t be certain of others.
On a 3rd gen 5.9 it’s called an IAT, inlet air temp sensor.
Then that would be the ENGINE AAT Sensor between the Air Box and the Turbo, correct?
Gotcha. So, what’s the one in the intake cover called?
Cummins calls it a “Pressure Temperature Sensor, Intake Manifold”. Does it not register temperature?
Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to learn.
They get dirty from soot as well. Not a bad idea to occasionally blast it with sensor cleaner.
Shouldn’t be any soot in the intake.
Even when I ran an aftermarket cam with enough overlap to see an increase in intake manifold temp with the EB on I didn’t get any soot in the intake manifold.
I dont know about "shouldn't" but there is. One place you can see it is on the turbo's vanes. There's also soot drawn into the HVAC system - pull out the fan and take a look.
Some exhaust circulates around the entire vehicle at times and it gets sucked into the eng. It would defy all logic if it didn't.
Cleaning the sensor (if dirty) can reduce smoke slightly - I've witnessed it with an emmissions tester.
That sounds more like a bad air filter and dust on the HVAC to me. I never saw anything on my turbos compressor blades, or in my intake.
I never did look at the HVAC fan in my 05, but other fans I’ve looked at have dust on them not soot.
I do agree that a dirty sensor can cause issues thou. If it’s dirty one needs to look at their air filter and intake setup.
Fleetguard AF's bad? Not a chance - you'll never convince me of that and I have no dusting (I'm sure that's next). Every single turbo I've seen had some minor discoloring on the blades that could be wiped away. Every. Single. One.
And I can tell the difference between dirt and soot.
Cant help with your lack of experieince.![]()
Soot in the intake, without an external EGR, is an issue. Don’t care what your experience tells you.
