I was wondering what anyone can tell me about the header grid. I know it is set up to heat the air that is entering the engine on a cold day.

A cold morning here is normally not less than about 40. Once in a while in the 30s during winter but not often.

The grid seems to draw a lot of power. When idling cold after I first start my volt meter sits at 14+ if I fast idle the truck up to about 1100-1200 the meter drops to the range of about 11-12 volts. This is the factory gauge.

Is this normal? Will this have ill effects on my batteries?

Can anyone tell me what the Intake Heater System Saver from PS Diesel does?

thanks

Yea, It draws about 130 amps from your 140 amp alt. I have the PS Intake Saver,It's great !What it does is,after your engine is warm,it bypasses the grid cycle,so when you start the enging again it doesn't draw down,so it saves both the life of the alt. , and intake heater element. Easy install too!

Fellow member D. Dressler passed this on to me, pretty neat stuff. We hooked LEDs up to both terminals of our grid heaters, running thin gauge wire to the LEDs, which are mounted in the cab. At key on (wait to start) both grid heaters are on. After start up and while still at idle, the grid heaters alternate with a short pause between cycles. If you start moving and keep your speed below 18 MPH or so, they alternate with no delay until approximately 3 minutes have passed or you have exceeded their cut off speed.

No doubt that they draw major amps. , enough so that the headlamps dim and my fuel pressure stays around 9 psi's post filter ( it's normally 14 psi's) at idle.
