I am slowly starting to build some more power into my 03 ho auto Dually with 45,000 miles. I have a Amsoil duel oil Bypass filter and I just installed a 4 inch stainless exhaust. Logically a intake would be next but according to Banks if I add a nice red intake horn I will get about+1. 5 lbs of extra boost.

I am asking anyone who knows, will you feel the extra boost? what does 1. 5 lbs equate to in H/P or FP of T? Is it worth the $ or Next step get a Smarty jr for $500.

A better intake horn is a nice addition to a good running engine. But it is in the very small return for fairly high price catagory. Lots of guys run high hp without them. I don't think there's a dimes bit of difference between the different brands. They are all better than stock. The Banks unit is OK but if you look at it, it has a bulge that must neck back down at the grid heater. Many think this causes turbulent flow and is not as good and most of the others. I did notice they have a 3. 5 inch inlet now, so that's kinda cool. I have an AFE on my 06 b/o a killer deal I got on it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Poor quality control issues. Don't believe all the hype in Banks adds. Search here and there's lots of objective data. There are lots of things I'd recommend before an intake horn.

Don't buy Banks... . All hype backed by millions of $$$$ in advertising. Every wonder how someone could afford the first 5 pages of every Diesel Power magazine for adverts? Go with the CFM+ unit. That Banks 3. 5 system requires more $$$ for the 3. 5" inlet pipe with boots and clamps.

Don't bother.

Ive got the AFE also. I had to Dremel out the interior, but it was simple. iInitially I felt a slight hp increase, but emissions are coming here and I'll probably take it off if necessary. Spend your money on a Smarty Jr.

I just put a GDP on. Same results as a CFM+, but for less money.

I haven't towed with it yet, but the boost comes on a little bit sooner, say 150-200 rpms and throttle response is improved.

X2, The GDP is the best value, and you will feel an immediate low end response.

Do the Jr first. Dop a search on CoolerTubz. It is a polished stainless intake horn made by a fellow TDR member. A couple years ago they were $150. I noticed a SOP dyno improvement and slight mpg. If you don't have the lift pump in the tank you might want to save up for an aftermarket fuel system too.

Thanks I would like to patronize fellow members who have a quality product. I have to do a search for the guy with the fuel tank vent fix kit.
As I see it now. 1) smarty jr $500 2) fuel system (air dog or fass?) $500-750 3) Intake horn4) new batteries $350 5)new tires ~$1500 6) Air filter-$200

Check this out,Dual Factory Pumps 03/07 with the new severe conditions kit form mopar you will be able to purchase the filter head and filter or (aftermarket filter) the wiring harness (03-04) owners will have the best filtration system on the market. Here's how it works. Install the Bracket with both pumps, use the buy pass port on the Bracket back to the New filter (Mopar) you may use the piping that comes with the kit or use your own 3/8 hose ( I would use 3/8 hose that way you can mount the head anywhere) 03-04 owners have a extra return port on the module for returning fuel. At this time 05+ owners and those with the intank pump will need drop the tank install the 03/04 module Use our adapter harness or modify the mopar harness ( I have not done any 05+ with the severe kit). This system will give you full-time filtration, the direct filtration systems are great for performance but are worthless for filtration. Also you will never be stranded from fail pump, the system will run on one pump (although poorly) until you can safely change the fail pump in less then 45 minutes max. The problem I see with just installing the severe kit ,It still is a direct feed system (not full-time) the pump fails leaving you stranded needing a tow it will cost to repair will be at least 5 times higher, the down time will increase by hours if not Days,

Go with the Smarty POD... . Only a few bucks more but gives you room to grow. As for air a filter set up, I'd say do the PSM Cold Air Intake kit on the stock airbox with a Cool Blue Tube and TAG III, As for a filter element... . Go with the Amsoil EA or the AEM DryFlow. Stay away from oiled filters like K&N and so on. Brian at DPP could set you up and maybe get a package deal with free shipping.

I installed the GDP Intake Horn, nice well-made product. I noticed a little faster spool up, guess you could call it a butt meter seat of the pants change as well. I also noticed a littler cooler EGT's, but I also installed the ME pipe at the same time, so I am not sure which of the two produced what. I did see better mpg's.

I have a Smarty Jr POD, it really woke up the already powerful mighty Cummins.

This is the best advice I have been given yet. As I am not 30 years old or in good heath anmore I really dont want to be stuck with the truck. Is this a major install or could a average guy do it?

Yes it somewhat involved, a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it 7. 5. 5 being average. some guys said it was simple and easy some have had problems mounting the pumps, One guy overtightened the mounting bolts and striped the canister side (I thought that may happen so I have longer bolts to send, the longer bolts work fine,He now knows what 20ft lbs means). the most comments I get is the fact You never have to worry that if one fails you always have the other. also the bypass will never effect the operation of the engine. monitoring the pressure will dictate filter changes.

Just my two cents but isn't the AFE made in CHINA? If so there's your quality issues and I try to avoid buying their garbage anyway-but good luck buying a kid's toy made here. That being said I run a CFM+, had a GDP and they feel about the same but my water meth wouldn't work with the 1/4in bosses on the GDP.
