I am planning on doing something with the intake, probably just the RE-0880 and maybe a pre-filter. I currently have the factory box with the fender connection pulled. Using thermocouples, I have been taking temperature readings at both the inlet of the box and out side the box where the RE-0880 would be mounted. I am quite surprised the temps aren't higher. The inlet of the factory box at 60 mph is 3-5 degrees F higher than ambient. At traffic lights or other stops it raises 20 degrees above ambient. Outside of the box it is again 3-5 degrees above ambient however at stoplights etc. , it is 30 degrees above ambient. Still not bad. The past few days have ranged from 80 -100. I never got a temp higher than 120. Matter of fact, when I arrive at work and let the turbo cool at idle, the temps would reach 100 and then rapidly drop and slowly rise. I suspect the clutch on the fan causes the fan to start spinning around 100.

Now for my question (the bombs) Next week I plan on ordering gauges, EGT and Boost as well as the pillar from Geno's. Does anyone have any install tips? This is my third ram, 96,98,01 but 1st diesel. I understand it to be safest, as far as breaking probe, to mount the probe after the turbo such as the down pipe. How about the Boost Gauge, Is the general idea to mount it in the elbow, which is connected to the intake manifold or is it better before the intercooler.

Thanks in advance,

Bob Ballard

Good Study

Bob Your temp. study is intersting I am doing the same thing but I have my temp. probe in the head were most people are putting the boost gage hookup. I put my boost hookup in the elbow going into the manafold. The inlet temps I have been seeing are about 110 F to 120 F with out the AC on when the AC is on my air temp. goes up to about 140 F this is all on the highway at 60 to 65 mph. I have been testing this for about 6 weeks now. As far as EGT goes I put my probe before the turbo. I also have the 2" leveling kit installed :D

Some say old cars nickle and dime you to much.

But this new truck just sucks up all the extra money I use to have and I love it. :D :D :D

Bob, I would mount your EGT probe pre-turbo for better readings, I have yet to hear of one person claiming turbo damage from a disintegrating probe.

Cliff, I think your intake temp probe is picking up heat from the engine. I have my probe installed in a port I drilled and tapped in the intake manifold and have yet to see the temp go over 125°.

Not again!, The Pre Vs. Post turbo priobe install was covered in 100 plus post thread. PRE TURBO is fine, THERMOCOUPLES dont break, disentegrate, explode, snap off, etc. You have nothing to worry about mounting it pre turbo. It is the best place to mount it for the benifit of monitoring your EGT readings.

Consider it a dead issue, I'll put it infront of the turbo. The thread about the air filter was very helpful. I bought the NAPA version today for $32 in my home town, at work(40 miles away) they wanted $50.

I am really glad to be on the list but now I really feel like I wasted quite a few driving the other two gas rams. Even the wife, who never digs my truck, is very impressed with this one. She stated the other day that after all the money I had put in the last truck, it never ran as strong as this factory truck. (Warm Fuzzy Feeling;)
