I was looking at the Magnum AFE intake kit, are they good? I liked what I was presented with but I don't know which one to go with or which is the best. Also I am looking at going with an EDGE COMP box or a JVD Torque Enhancer all input would be appreciated.

I am currently testing the JVD box I like it a lot has 3 setings, it is load sensing so the more the, the more it throws. About 120hp, however I have to keep an eye on that boost and pyro I peg the 1500 degree mark quickly and the boost climbs very fast to 45 psi and I back out quick because I don't want to blow anything. I can't wait for the HX 40... lol

Edge Comp is great.

I do not have experience with the AFE intake, but I plan on getting one. Right now I am running the K&N RE0880, but it is just too loud.

The Comp is by far the best mod I have ever done to a vehicle. I had the EZ for a while, but the Comp is the way to go. You can set it in cab for no smoke and no egt probs, all the way to more fuel than my setup will handle. It really needs injectors to come alive, that and a clutch is next on my list. If you want to try one (or any other mod) send me a PM.

I have been running the AFE Mega Cannon box for about a month. It was easy to install (and de-install if necessary) and I've been satisified with it's performance. Although I cannot quantify the exact number, EGTs are down running with and without towing. I have not noticed any preceptible difference in noise inside the cab.

JVD vs. Edge

i have an older JVD box that has the 20% and 50% settings. the is a good solid performing box, however i build heat really quick. the only other mods i have are drilled out airbox and a straight pipe 3 inch exhaust. my brother has the Egde Comp box on the same basic truck, and his truck stays cooler and runs stronger... i think it is in the timing part of the box that is the secret.

Bigstick,

Let me be the one to throw a wrench in the works. I Have a two stage Amsoil high flow filter on my truck. I like it alot though it makes my girlfriend complain about the turbo whine. Guys like the noise- women tend to achieve the same frequency in voice tones as the turbo while they complain about it.

Secondly, I skipped the whole box thing. I went straight for the meat and potato. I got 100+ hp injectors. I don't have to worry about my EGTs climbing to fas nor do I have overly worry about boost. My last dyno had me at 285 hp and 617 lb ft torque at the rears. My boost was at 30 psi ( not WOT) my EGT was 1150 degrees.

My power comes much smoother than a box. The injectors follow the "normal " fuel ramp that stock injectors do. However, push the peddle closer to the floor and HOLD ON!

I also stay under the limits for my clutch. Though I thought I got it to slip once. I live in So Cal and just completed a 2700 mile trip up and down the mountains. I was in 5th gear and cruise almost 100% of the time. I only downshifted to 4th when my EGTs got to 1150 degrees.

Yeah, I noticed how fast the JVD box builds heat. I have to back out of it way too quickly to prove anything except smoke. I like the fact that the comp box also improves the timing. I also removed my 275 injectors and installed a set of 4. 5's that my friend makes. He has his own diesel performance shop here and he knows his stuff and is an excellent machinist. I am pegging my 1500 pyro quickly and have to back out also because I reach 45 psi like it is nobodies business. I get scared when I see that happening.

Just curious if you have ridden in a truck with a box?

Injectors increase the power across the board, but its the boxes that give the unreal topend power etc. Least thats my impression... ... box off... ok its decent driving... ..... turn the box on... hang on...

right now as it sits currently on the truck

DDIII's, Edge Drag COMP, DD camshaft, AT-4 turbo.

Bigger injectors, a different turbo (KwikSpool B1) are both enroute.

Kat,

No joy on a ride with a box. I don't know anyone that has one here in San Diego. I do understand that the boxes kick pretty hard and that was one reason I went with my injectors. It will save my drive train.
