Archived Inter cooler hose blowing off

Hey folks,



All stock 2001'



No matter how clean the hose and tube ends are or how tight I tighten the clamps it keeps blowing the 2nd inter cooler hose from the turbo. It will stay on until I accelerate a bit hard. The hose looks good and have tried new clamps tightened so tight I was afraid I'd strip them. I suspect the waste gate actuator needs replaced but am unsure. Should I be able to move the actuator rod by hand? If so, I can not. Is there anything else that could cause it?

Try some hair spray! The hair spray will allow it to go back on easier and also once it drys it makes it sticky.

You may also need a new boot. .

Put a boost gauge in it. How much boost you running?

I don't have a gauge so I'm not sure. I figured since it is all stock it couldn't be pumping too much boost. I will get a gauge and check it out. Maybe it's premature to blame the waste gate. I had heard of the hair spray thing but thought it was an old wives tale and stopped short of doing it. I will also give that a try though. I guess my main concern is over pressurizing the engine and potentially doing damage. It does run a lot better during the brief time when the hose is on though.

I would replace the hose first. Once they sneak out from under those hose clamps once they get easier and easier to come off each time

It should de-fuel if the boost runs much over 20 psi. And set an over boost code. Phil

I had a friend that could not find out why his kept comeing off. Then he finally found that the engine mount was bad cousing the hose to pull off when he accelarated hard.

I have one that keeps coming off as well. Who's is selling boots that are worth buying... or it is a dealer only item??

If you think they are pricey, call the dealer and get a quote on the cheap stock ones.

I purchased a new DAYCO hose, 3" I. D. X 5" long, P/N 78601GL and that took care of it. The DAYCO replacement is much thicker than the O. E. M.

I cleaned the tubes, inside of the new hose, and the clamps with thinner and sprayed them with hair spray before I installed the new hose. It was a lot harder putting the new on on than the old one. So far, so good.

I had the same problem with a 2000. The metal connecting tube was slightly misaligned causing the hose to slip off under heavy boost.
