inter cooler

what in the world is an inter cooler..... i know i should know but i don't and now people are asking me if my truck is inter cooled or not and how do i tell if my is or isn't? i have a 93

If your 93 is all stock and has a CTD, it came from Dodge with an intercooler. I believe that the technical name is "air to air charge cooler". Basically, it is a radiator that removes heat from the incoming air charge traveling from the turbo to the engine. Cooler intake air = more horsepower, and we all know how important horsepower is to the Pastor!! If you look under the hood and follow the air tube coming out of the turbo, you will see it go forward to the grille area of the truck. That is where the intercooler is mounted. On the drivers side, the return pipe from the intercooler to the engine can be seen. Just my . 02 cents . . .

Yes you do have a intercooler if your pickup is a 93. I am not a mechanic, but an intercooler looks like a radiator. If you pop your hood look at the line that comes off your turbo and heads up to the front just inside your grill. The air goes in one side and out the other continuing in the intake side of the motor.



The overall reason that they started to put them on pickups was to cool the air going into the motor which produces more power and less egts.

You guys made it understandable, thats what counts.



In this application the "inter cooler" is really an "after cooler" but IC is more descirptive than AC would be.



Don't want to confuse the buying public too much.

In my business, the quote unquote "intercooler" is referred to as the "charge air cooler"

however, there are two types of "charge air coolers"

You've got you'r air to air, like our trucks do and then you've got yer air to coolant type. It's these coolant types we refer to as the "aftercooler"



By differentiation (I like that word) I'll say it again... ... differentiation, say it with me..... "Differentiation" we know what the person is attempting to convey. That is, of course, if the person knows what he/she is referring to. In that respect, one would be forced to reach his/her own conclusion.

I must disagree with Greenleaf's very accurate and technical description and submit the technically correct "differentiation" is an "intercooler" is an air charge cooler situated between 2 boost devices and an "aftercooler" is situated downstream of all boost devices.

Definitely a fume problem here. Could it be that someone is getting low on nitrous oxide. Just crank up the old Cummins and let the garage door down. Breath deep. Get those disolved blood gas levels up to snuff. All things will become clearer.

Jimmy, while you are checking out parts and terminology, you indicate that your truck is a crewcab. Is it actually or is it the extended cab. It would not be a 93 if it is a true crew. 85 is the last year Dodge made the crew cab. How are you coming on the Getrag / NV? And don't neglect the books.
