I keep having a problem with the turbo to intercooler boot blowing off, have tightened and repositioned the clamp several times, Is there a different boot or clamp to fix this problem?

What I did. A buddy on this list "paid it forward" and gave me the hoses off his truck, I think is was a 99 (mine a 98) and the hoses were about 3/4" longer then mine. But anyway

Clean the hose and both sides of the pipes with strong rubbing alcohol. (or something that will not leave grease or residue behind)

I then applied 3m weather strip adhesive (the yellow stuff) to the outside of the pipes, not much, a little goes a long way, maybe a 1/8" bead all the way around.

I stuck the hose back on and twisted it around to spread out the weather strip adhesive snott.

Install the factory clamps but hold them near to the flared end of the pipes. This will leave lots of rubber on the "outside" of the 2 clamps. Tighten up the clamps and it has not moved in 2 years.

I think the glue helped some, but I think the real trick is to make it clean, and leave as much rubber as you can on the outside of the clamps, as you have seen only one small part will pull out from under the clamp, by moving the clamp as far to the end of the pipe as you can, all that extra rubber on the outside helps to stop it from pulling thru the clamp.

If your original hose has come of several times, you may have to buy a factory replacement, my original hose was pretty distorted looking from having come apart so many times.

There was some guys trying a different kind of hose, never heard much about that, but once a problem has been fixed for good, everybody here does it and we never hear about it again :D

boot problems

rb,

The torque on the boot clamps is 72 ft lbs. If you torque to this spec you should not have any problems. I have had mine off and on many times and have not had a problem.

:--) :--) Are you sure this isn't 72 INCH pounds of torque??

Heres my story

A couple years back, after installing a Banks kit,I started having problems with my boots. I cleaned all the ends,(as mentioned above),roughed (sanded) the ends, tried contact adhesive, went to the better spring type clamps and as mentioned, bought new boots. Coming back from the race track pulling my trailer,I must of stopped a dozen times,(middle of the night no less),all summer,to put these back on. It was always the two boots on the turbo side. Finally,(really disgusted by now),I started looking VERY close on the inside before I put it back on,I seen markings,(stains),running down the inside of the boot(s),I thought it was condensation????? causing this. Was'nt,turned out to be oil getting by the seals in the turbo. My dealer,(excellent service, with a trained diesel mechanic that knows his stuff),checked the turbo out and found the end play on the shaft way out of spec. I got a complete new turbo, even swapped my 12 housing for the Banks 14,and new boots,no problem. OK,this is what I think you might be really interested in,While he was putting the boots and the connection piece back in he was getting very upset at how it was going together. He said the boots seemed "short". He was not happy with it and I actually left the shop,to leave him be. The next day it was all set. He found that the connection piece was in backwards! To this day he still blames me for all his grief that afternoon!!!! I can tell you this,I'm VERY knowledgeable about mechanics, not saying I don't make mistakes, but the scribe mark went on the end of that piece BEFORE the first time I pulled it out. It was always forward when it went back in,He did see a mark on it while he had it out. To this day,I've never once had a boot even move on me,with my current setup,I often see boost @40 to 45lbs. Whew... ... . theres my story,oh ya,my truck,Its a 1999 3500 QC 4X4. Dave

When my boost was hitting 45 lbs. , I kept blowing my hose off. I just double clamped it. No problem since.

Go to a truck parts place such as a Freightliner dealer and get a blue or red sillicone charge air hose. THe one I got was longer than stock, 3" diameter, and had a steel wire coil around it to keep it from expanding and slipping loose. Also get a couple spring loaded constant pressure type hose clamps to go with it. This cured my problems and DC must agree since 2001. 5+ truck have the coil spring hose clamps on the turbo connection from the factory. Oil getting on there from filter changes don't help either.
