Anyone know the cost of a 2nd gen intercooler? I rearened a Ranger on I-5 last week & noticed that the valance was into my intercooler. I'm not having any boost or EGT issues but it is bent & I'm going to push that it be replaced while the front end is being replaced.

I'm just afraid if I don't have it replaced now while my insurance company is footing the bill, the stress from the bent area will finally fracture thus requiring it to be replaced at a later time & I would be stuck footing the bill :{

ouch

I can tell you what they cost about two years ago when I hit a deer. I didn't hurt mine... but I was talking to the body man and he said they are $900 for the cooler and around $500 for the radiator. Better try to get it done now and retrieve some of your insurance premiums.

Clay,

I bought my truck wrecked in 2000, with a bent intercooler. Has the nice upside down V impression in it. I have not had any problems with mine. I do wish that I would have made the seller replace that before I took ownership. I cringe every time I see it.

I agree 100% with you trying to get insurance to replace it. Good luck.

I would definitely go with more efficient aftermarket intercooler specially made to lower EGTs and withstand massive pressures. Especially since they cost less. :rolleyes: Since your on the west coast I would give rip a call I know he doesnt have them listed on his site yet but here is a link to the same intercooler on our page Cool Twist Intercooler

560psi is when it blew. this intercooler uses the same centercore we use on tractor pullers, some of which see 200+ lbs of pressure. So it has to be made strong to survive. I'll post pictures tomorrow of the aftermath. Hope this helps

Were there tanks attached to the core when that test was preformed? Or were you just testing the intercooler core itself?

Piers,

The pressure test was done with the tanks attached to the core. The tanks on the core that was tested were brand new though.

hope this helps

Hi Jason,

I should have been more specific with my question, was it tested with the Dodge tanks? reason I ask is because we have intercoolers that hold more than that, but we had issues with the stock Dodge tanks, that's why we went ahead and had new tanks casted, that and that way there are no cores to worry about shipping back.

Thanks, Piers

Piers, sorry for the confusion, the intercoolers were pressure tested just like they ship for high-horsepower applications-with our brand new tanks. We had the same problems you apparently had with the stock tanks :rolleyes: but aren't they fun when they blow. We use the cores we receive on stock or oem applications.
