50. 000 miles on the truck. intercooler is not coverd by the standard warranty. I am getting the new cooler from dodge. Folsom lake dodge. I've been pretty happy the dealer so far.

talked to the tech when i was getting my oil changed, he said that they change them cause they know the're crap, told me if i know anyone with the "new" plastic ones to send them over.

My plastic tanked intercooler broke on the inlet side a couple months ago towing my RV as I was coming into St. George Utah. The Dodge dealer there had it in stock and replaced it under warranty. They know there a bad design.

Mine split appart too, went to two dealers, and both said it wasn't covered under the 70000 mile warrenty, I was on my way home from Montana when it happened smoke blowing out pretty bad and it sounded like the turbo was going to get sucked into the heater vent. Anyways, at about 9 at night we stopped in a gas station and pulled it out bent the tabs open and fixed it, ran it that way for a few months, found a take off aluminum on Ebay for 250 buck and put that on, they are on there alot from guys going to twins. Just keep your eye open.

Guys, what was the failure mode. Do the ends just pop off or do parts break? Would a few bands, like huge hose clamps, strapping the end caps to the core help prevent the failures?

Also for stock trucks it sounds like it fails mostly when towing. Is it the extended periods of boost which causes the IC to get extra hot which then softens the plastic which lets the end cap pop off?

If ya haven't guessed I got a plastic one and just trying to get a feel for how to avoid getting stranded because of it. Thanks.

Why not take the opportunity to replace it with an aftermarket one like Banks, or... ... . whatever. I put a Banks Technicooler in my '06 shortly after I got it. It'll probably run you another $400, but it's worth it, in my opinion.

a member on the forums upgrade his metal intercooler to a Banks unit and GAVE me his old metal intercooler. Shop around, yall can find good deals.

fireman,

Any performance gain with the banks? Does it run any cooler? Are your boost numbers any different?

Anyone run the BD cooler?

I know my Spearco is kick a**... My egt's are down around 700 to 750 degree's and with everythig turned up all the way it takes longer for my egt's to climb

700 degree's:eek: WOW thats a huge drod in EGT's... where were you before? even if you were at worse case 1700 you would only be seeing 1000 now?

That much of a drop is amazing:confused:

CHolman, i went to spearco's web site and could not find any listing for an intercooler on a ram. Is yours a custom built one or am i missing the listing?

If you have a link to it that would be cool, or if no info how about a couple of photos?

I have some pics on myspace of both my trucks and turbo and inter cooler... I got the inner cooler from HTT. They don't carry them, but I'm sure they'd be willing to help you... . You'll just have to click on View my pics and scroll down on myspace... www.myspace.com/Drifter0678 I thought about this post today and was really watching the temp coming to work and with cruise set on 70 MPH the temp verified by both my analog and TST gauges was going between 700 and 720 with slight inclines along the way... . 102 degrees on the over head... I towed a 6k trailer up to flag Staff in 115 degree weather up that monster hill and I averaged 880 to 920 and that was with the SMARTY on 8 and TST on 4/2 3 degree's of timing and 3 on rail pressure...

CHolman. I think i was confused, i was thinking your drop in EGT's was 700 after your new intercooler. Now i see you mean you EGTs ARE 700, i assume you have post turbo for your probes?

I have pre turbo and my temps are over 1200-1300 at peaks on the stock settings.

well then your truck runs very cool. I guess your turbo is doing its job along with your other parts.

what is your peak EGT on a hard pull?
