If my goal is to run cooler and get more power on currently stock truck, how much does an aftermarker intercooler really help? I am thinking of adding a suncoast transmission to taking the 1200 dollars and getting the transmission instead may be a better first step. I was then thinking of a turbo upgrade, single if it can do better than stock or a compound unit to get more power AND lower EGT towing without hurting mileage.

transmission would be better investment. Then a HE351 off a 04.5-07 as they are much better than what you currently have and easy to get used.

Back then I went to a bigger turbo (HX40 type) and it helped egt and power (25 HP on the dyno). Today I would go to BD for the turbo.

The stock intercoolers are a pretty good unit, as long as they get good airflow from the a/c condenser.

I don't see much more than 35-40° above ambient on the IAT's when pulling hard up a hill and about +15° comes pre-turbo. That's not going to be a big change in EGT's or IAT and average airflow levels.

Your money is best spent elsewhere.

IMHO---Look at the scientific results of improving intercooler specs. I think you'll find only noticeable improvements at high throttle demands. How often are you calling for 80%+ power levels & for what purpose, and for how long?

I now have a Banks Intercooler & RAM intake to replace my damaged OEM cooler. No measurable improvement in mileage, towing or otherwise. If you're throwing mega $$ at a power upgrade, then seek advice here, how component upgrades are ranked re: effectiveness. I'd start my shopping list with that.

Like I told my golfing friend: "If your good enough to tell the difference between a $50 driver and a $500 driver, then you'll probably do better with the expensive one."

Good luck & let's hear of your new adventures.
