Intercooler paint

A friend of mine sent me this email message, it's the first I've heard of it. Anyone else hear of this?



Do you know of any recalls on the intercooler paint for my truck? I've looked at a bunch of diesels lately and the paint is flaking right off of them. Took pics of a bunch of them out at the Badlands a couple of weeks ago. There was 3 Dodge Cummins that all had paint coming off the intercooler plus mine. These are all new trucks. 04's and 05's.

I haven't heard this. Mine is a 04 and the paint is holding up fine. Could it be only the trucks with the plastic intercooler?

My '04 has paint flaking off the intercooler.

03 flaking. don't know of a recall though.

Yup, mine is flaked off too. I will pull the intercooler and paint it this winter when I do the twins

who really cares if the charge air cooler paint flakes off??? a raw aluminum core will cool better than a painted core??? and nothing a quick spray of flat black paint won't touch up anyways. .

True. But on the other hand if you pay +30K for a truck, is it too much to ask for the paint to stay on? Or even metal and not plastic for possibly important components?

I thought it was made of alum. I sure wouldnt paint it. IMHO

I agree with Nick and bombero... I'd rather mine were left bare.

Yeah but that is beside the point. Either paint it or don't paint it. But don't paint it half arsed so the paint comes off. That kind of stuff bothers me. I don't want to look under my hood and see paint peeling off things.

The few of us with 2002 second gen trucks were lucky and got bare metal intercoolers and condensers from the factory. I've never liked the look of it showing through the grill but do like not having a layer of paint on the fins.



What type of paint is it they put on there?

Paint flakes off lots of them. Mine also. Won't EVER be a RECALL(do what)Bugs,car wash(detergent and high spray).
