Hello Group,

I'm installing an ISB-305 in my Hummer H1. I notice it has an intercooler. In the unfortunate event mine donor Intercooler wont fit, I'll require another one.

From what I read, the turbo helps pull in fresh cool air, and runs it through the intercooler. The turbo is powered by exhaust gas, which spins a turbine, and is on a shaft with the fresh air inlet turbine. So the turbo pulls in alot more air than a N/A motor could on it's own. However, It's my understanding that exhaust gas doesn't get recycled along with fresh air.

All that said, why is outside air cooler after going through an intercooler? Is it simply because the turbo itself is hot, being connected to the engine, and cool air passing thru it gets hot in turn?

Thanks -

Yes, the intake charge gets some heat from the temp of the turbo, but gets most of the heat from the turbo compressing it. It is then run through the air to air intercooler to lower the intake charge temp.

Hope this helps some.

get us some pictures of this project... sounds like something i would love to have :D

and on your specific engine, there is no egr. some engines have egr systems on them, and they do recirculate exhaust gasses back into the air inlet to "cool" down the intake air charge [cool as in take space up to lower the amount of oxygen in the cylinder at ignition]
