Any suggestions for a replacement intercooler?? I have one of the little accordian fin things hanging down under the front of the truck. Darned salt and NE corrosion is no help.

Also, the transmission oil cooler sprung a leak and had to be temporarily bypassed. Mopar no longer sells replacements. Any suggestions for a replacement for that too? :(

Yes They are!

I do not remember the price. I asked when I got my exhaust, gauges and K&N. It was pretty high dollar. :--)

Does anyone know the price of a banks intercooler or if you can get one without buying the whole kit? What is the advantage of a banks intercooler?

Chris

Cooler = Better

Whenever you compress a gas, it gets hotter or has more energy making the molecules bang into eachother. Like what makes a diesel, diesel. Compression = super heated air. This is good to a point, but if the temperature gets too high, things melt. Cooler denser air makes much more power, SO... .

Cool the air as it come out of the turbo (aka compressor) and get more power, lower EGT's, more life from pistons and valves. It is all good!

Oh yeah, and lower emissions!! Hence the addition of the intercooler to 91 and up models. Trouble is, they were supposed to do a better job on stump pullin'. BUT the EPA wanted clean air! Sorry, cleaner emissions, but no soup (power) for you!

Yea , I can tell ya - about $ 1000. 00 . Well I got mine for about $ 940. 00 and you can get it with out buying the kit .

2nd Gen....

I also understand that the 2nd Gen Intercoolers will fit our trucks w/ minimal hassle. I have yet to do this so I can't speak from experience.

There's a brand new one in the TDR classifieds:

2nd Gen Intercooler

or there's (2) on Ebay now if you type in Cummins. Ted Jannetty is actually selling one of them.

Ebay Intercooler / Jannetty

Other Ebay Intercooler

I don't know if this helps... ..... just another option!

2nd GEN Fits??

Has anyone done that? Used a second gen intercooler on a first gen truck??

Any suggestions for a good transmission cooler to replace my leaker?

2nd gen intercooler will not fit in a 1st gen easily. You will have to cut both sides of the main front header supports plus more to make it fit.

Also the 2nd gen inlet and outlet are bigger and spread out farther away from each other than the 1st gen. So you would have to fab up piping and find change intercooler boots.

PDR can get new 1st gen intercoolers alot cheaper than a banks one  ,with a million mile warranty to boot.

Mark what is the advantage of the banks intercooler. would you see that much of a difference with getting one? Just wondering.

How much can PDR get an intercooler for?

Chris

I have heard of no advantage from owners of the banks cooler.

As per guide lines... . you can phone me or e-mail me at PDR for pricing and I will be glad to help.

On a side note. Stan aka Paccool arrived at the shop today, as he couldn't wait until DynoMania on sat. ;)

Sorry for the mis-information... ... .

After doing a "Search" I realize it's not as straight forward as I thought. Many of you had responded to this past posting.

See link: Intercooler Link

I do however remember a First Gen TDR Member that has a 2nd Gen Intercooler installed in his First Gen. I wish I could remember who it is. He made the swap sound fairly straight forward.

Chris
Its hard to say . I did all the bombing on my truck one part at a time and a$$ backward. If I did it again I might not do the intercooler . It is bigger than the factory one . The only thing that it might do is help a little in keeping the exhaust temps down but how much , who knows . But you have to ask yourself is it worth $1000. 00 dollars ????????? If I was putting a intercooler in a 89 through 91 I would get the Banks intercooler just because it would be new .
