Had a brake line fail and now I need a few new front end parts#@$%!

Anyway are the BD coolersor any other aftermarket worth the extra money I found oem for $578???

Thanks

I'm assuming you are ok, glad to hear it. I can't see why an upgraded CAC would be needed, especially for the difference in price.

For stock power and mild upgrades, the stock intercooler is enough. When you have high egt problems, and the TST #10 plate in a 215 HP engine will give high egts, a better intercooler such as the BD (my choice) can be part of your recipe to keep egt's below the 1300 degree maximum. A larger turbo and 4” free-flowing exhaust will also be in the recipe.

Check your inbox, Kenny.

Please write up some details on this brakeline failure when you get time.

What other parts are you needing?

Thaks everyone for the speedy replies. Nobody was hurt and I have collision so its more aggravation than anything else. I had to pull off the bad parts and patch it up so I can leave for a few days off with the family in a few hours. I will follow up when I get back next week.

SRATH thanks for the links

The picture of the drivers side with teh red circle and x is the area where the line rotted out they all looked pretty bad so i replaced them (3) but oupon further inspectoin found some ones that i missed going to and from the abs crap so i will replace 2 more.

For the icing on the cake on the way home from New Hampshire today I fad the passenger side brake hose do the one way check valve thing... I cant catch a break this week... . #@$%!

Finally got all my quads loaded and the trailer set, wish me luck boys I'm outta here... . :D

PS if you ever need to bypass your intercooler 3"pvc works great just keep the boost below 20psi and regular hose clamps will hold it

The brake lines on these trucks are dangerous. I didn't wreck my truck when the line exploded but I still don't know how I avoided all of those cars in rush hour traffic. I also changed all of my lines. Glad to hear your ok and insured

It would be a good opportunity to upgrade to sport lights, maybe one of those beefy aftermarket bumpers, but otherwise, that looks just like a very rough day. Was it a tree that provided the necessary stopping power? It actually looks like something low, but vertical and cylindrical, like a tree stump or fire hydrant.

I'm glad you (& passengers?) and those Ricksons are all OK. One thing about offroad riding: it will clear the mind for the duration. So twist the throttle and grab some air! let us know how the truck rehab is going when you get back.

Has anyone tried this prebent stainless steel hardline kit or found a similar one for our trucks?

PRE BENT OEM BRAKE-HARD LINE REPLACEMENTS FOR DODGE RAM, FORD PICKUPS AND SUVS :: Truck Upgrades :: Circle Track Supply, Inc.

Or a stainless steel prebent fuel line kit?

Dodge used the cheapest, crappiest metal possible for all hardlines and I cannot believe they got away with such a safety issue. I have had and seen many 40 year old vehicles that spent their entire lives in the rustbelt with hardlines that are in much better condition than a Dodge's after only a few years.

I came home from vacation sick as a dog with my yearly allergy turned to sinus infection deal. Im still a little under theweather so i'm gonna keep it short...

I rearended a chevy pick up with a trailer hitch. It apperaed I buckled his bed. I am actually happy the accident happened where it did. 45 mph zone, no passengers and an empty trailer vs 65 mph zone going down hill into a fog bank with family and full trailer... .

I havent got the truck into the body shop yet for the estimate so I dont know how much money they are gonna give me. So im not sure what upgrades im gonna do yet

Joe in your opinion would the 700-800 dollar difference between stock and aftermarket intercooler be better spent on a turbo and exhaust or the intercooler? I usually dont tow heavy but am aware that a heavy load will require me to regulate the egt with my foot and therefore am wondering what the best temp control for the buck is

Thanks

Ken

Bump Bump Oo.

Kenny,

I purchased the Spearco IC a couple of years ago. I did notice about a 75 to 100* degree drop in egt after the install. The biggest thing you'll notice is the spool-up is much quicker. The other thing I noticed is that when the truck is loaded, the egt's were reduced 250*. I think mine was about $1100 then. Other than that,It would be hard to justify the expense unless you had major mods planned and/or needed to tow a large trailer.

Thanks Alan, As the truck is now when its empty I have to mash it and hold it to get it over 1200 or climb a really steep hill at 80 mph plus. 2 things I (almost) never do. On the rear occasion that I tow something heavy 1-3 times a year I have to watch my egts when climbing hills or passing (usually a ford on a hill :-laf ) I think if I could get about a 300* reduction when towing under load I would be happy. Question is to get that 300* reduction where will I get my best bang for the buck as my truck is set up now?

Spearco is $1595 now

I think you would be better served with an upgraded turbo with your particular application..... problem is,you already need to purchase an IC! So I guess why not get the BD one and go for it!! BTW... . I looked it up to see what I paid... . $1238,shipped to my home back in the spring of 08'. But it is all aluminum and much bigger..... freer flowing which makes the turbo spool much faster.

I cant stand anything that needs to be refilled/ recharged... Its always empty or dead when you need it the most...

Im still trying to figure out what bumper to get... .

So far this one is at the top... . so many choices.....

Wound up going with a fab fours bumper and stock used ebay intercooler (175 bucks shipped figured for that price I could use it as a throw away) all the other parts will be new. I decided to hold off on a performance intercooler until I get done with some of my house / garage projects. So hopefully next year the ram will get new turbo, intercooler and injectors as a complete package. I figured its better than chasing parts, such as bigger turbo needs bigger injector etc etc etc...

Thanks For the help guys!!

Here's the bumper I still need to adjust it but will wait til the intercooler comes in and I get done putting in parts...

Its amazing how much the damage on your truck resembles the frontend on mine when i hit a deer (same deer twice) at 55 and then ran over him while trying to get stopped. I had to replace everything between the fenders all the way to the motor, including fan. Randy
