230 HP Injection Pump

Just finished plumbing in an intercooler out of a 94+ Dodge. What a difference! 70 mph crusing temps went from 750-800 deg. to 550-600 deg. ITS TIME FOR MORE FUEL! This need for more power is truly a disease. Did any of you guys that put an intercooler on a non-intercooled truck loose any boost? I did. Went from 25 lbs WOT empty to 18 lbs. And that's after I turned up the fuel. I think I need to pressurize the system. I'll post pics one of these years:rolleyes:

Lost Boost.

I think, and I repeat I think that the reason that you lose boost pressure when you run an intercooler is the change in the air as it gets cooled. I think that it's density changes and the boost drops, please any one correct me, but my chemistry days seem to make me think this :confused:

AWM. Yeah it worked but I had to modify it to get it to work. I removed the top (first) row so I could retain the factory hood latch and shortened the outlet tube by 2 inches to help clear the battery tray.

Miller. That makes sense. I would think that the large size of this intercooler should give me lots of room to grow. This 230 hp pump I'm hearin about sounds interesting. That with a set of lucas injectors and a Piers turbo... I see a large smile and an empty wallet in my future!

lower boost

A cooler reduces the temperature and therefore the pressure of the incoming air. When you turn the fuel up, the boost comes back. Only now there is a lot more air to mix with the fuel. My old truck is running 22 psi boost. It is really impressive from 60 to 95 or so. Stock gassers get surprised all the time!

pics

Bruce,

Bring on the pictures man. I've got an intercooler out of a 95 sitting in the garage waiting to get installed as soon as I get the rest of my firewood put up. Pics would save me some engineering time.

?

I don't remember what this intercooler looks like. Is it physically larger then the stock ones that the 1st gens had? Might be a neat up grade.

Thanks,

Russell

R. E. Miller: The cooller in the 94 and up Dodges are MUCH larger than the 93 and older models.

Paul Herioux: I'll try to get on it. I warn you though... I'm pathetically lazy and quite the procrastinator when it comes to posting pics.

I just got back from elk hunting. Pulled the trailer up, loaded it's about 6500 lbs. , truck is about 7000 lbs. I was able to maintain 50 mph up a 6% grade in 3rd gear, temps were as follows:

EGT = 950 post turbo

Boost = 18 lbs

transmission temp unlocked = 215

water temp = 210

I had a little bit of peddle left but flooring it just caused the EGT temps to rise with now increase in speed.

So I'm thinking the next mod should be a turbo, right? That would get me more boost without the heat I think.

Twins!

Hey Bvanetten!

That 'Burb should have "Plenty 'O Room" under hood for a twin turbo set up! :D:):D

A Piers "Super Turbo" at a minimum!

Bring it on...

KEENO:)

Elk hunt

Did you get anything?

Don't worry about the pictures til after the first of the year. I'll be hunting whitetails til then. Intercooler will be a late winter project.
