In 2nd gen trucks the 24 valve intercooler is about a inch taller. If I remember right it has one less row of tubes than a 12 valve intercooler, but has a intricate cooling fin setup that provides more surface area. Also, the 12 valve intercoolers were painted which acts as insulation.
From what I could tell on my 98 12 valve truck, swapping in the 24 valve intercooler made about a 25 to 50 degree EGT reduction.
