I got this direct from a Cummins Engineer that worked as a liason with DC... "Dodge made the air box to fit the truck, not the engine. "

I'm sure Cummins told Dodge what CFM was needed to flow properly if they did that that's another thing.

well thats one of the reasons we changed our filter its a no oil, better flow, and better filtration. its the best overall filter the market has to offer

The new filter does not flow any better than the old nor does it filter any better. I would never sell someone a new one to replace the old one unless they really wanted it. But if they don't have and Amsoil filter at all then of course that would be the one to go with.

The biggest advantage to the new is you don't have to oil it. You have no idea how many people have over oiled the filter which caused the mass air flow sensor to foul. Some dealers would still take care of it under warranty but most didn't. All 3 major auto makers have a TSB out about vehicles coming in with mass air flow problems and to watch for oiled air filters. If you have and oiled air filter, well thats it you are on your own. Is it right? Well in some cases no its not, but in many it is.

With oil analysis I have seen no differance at all between the new and old filter. But I do like not having to clean and oil the thing. But something to watch out for are the guys that will blast the thing with to much air pressure and blow a hole through it. Will this happen? You bet it will because most don't read the cleaning instructions. So their are pros and cons to both filters.

the new amsoil filter (1) holds more dirt and (2)does flow more than the old one-----why do you think there phaseing it out, not my oppinion, but straight from Amsoil tech! :D

Well if you were in this full time you might know a little more about whats really going on. I speack with higher ups at Amsoil almost on a daily basis that know a little more than someone in tech services. But you are more than welcome to beleive what you want.

Greg,

Amsoil needs to step up to the plate and post their whole ISO5011 test , if it's that great.

yes i do this full time i build diesels that put out over 1,000HP all the time and i no whats going on! i speak to the " higher ups" as well---so what!!!! it dosent make me any better than the next guy. there both good filters but, under extensive testing on the dyno and the flow bench and others, the new sythetic filter is better, seems like you need to talk to someone else about these filters. it is what it is! :-{} :-laf

2006 has gone back to the cylinder type filter. Also the person that had the testing might have been a bit bais toward the AC Delco.

these new ones also use the donaldson powercore filter... very good flow & filtering for the size of the media

empirical evidence

Oil analysis showed a 50% reduction in Silicon when I switched from a factory air filter to a Fleetguard BHAF in my '97. That's proof enough for me.

I would like to know were all these Test filters drop in or were the K&N and AFE big pull the air box out types.

My AFE is the big race one with 3times the surface area of a drop in and I think that makes the biggest difference less pressure on the media and oil with allot more surface area.

I was curious about this as well. They listed the part number of the filter they used, so I went to AFE's web site and looked it up. It is listed in the OEM filter section, so I would imagine that it is the element that goes in the stock air box. I could not see if it was the old style filter or if it was a Pro-Guard 7 filter.
