The May 30 edition of Automotive News reports that starting in 2006 GM full-size vans will finally be available with the DMAX. That's not the intersting part. The interesting part is the compression ratio on the engine has been changed to 16. 8:1 (from the current 17. 5:1) [note: ratings will be 250 hp @ 3200, 460 lb-ft @ 1600].

The article claims the change in compression ratio is for noise reduction. But given the relationship between compression ratio and efficiency, what will this do to fuel economy on future DMAX's? And how does this information relate to the new reports of a DMAX with 650 ft-lb?

they are also putting the dmax in the h1 now for military use and it also is being downsized because there is not enough room for the cooling equipment. i imagine in the trucks its the same. ford also does the same thing with there powerchokes that they put in motorhomes. the hp is downsized because there is not enough room for the necassary cooling equipment.
