cellular antenna questions??

Doorstep proselytizing.

I got an email today and the sender was just "Cummins". The address was -- email address removed --, and the subject was "rights reserved". The interesting part was that it had nothing in the body, but to attachments with funny names... Don't remember what they were but one was a . scr file. I deleted it right away, but an wondering WTF?

Anybody ever see anything like this before?

I've been getting a lot of those. Today, I even got a undeliverable email returned to me, with one of those . scr files attached. I searched my address book and the address that the message was supposedly returned from wasn't listed. This stuff is starting to drive me nuts Oo. :{ Oo.

I just checked my email and found another new one with and . exe file attached. The subject was "Hi,your password"

I get this stuff daily, some times more than one a day.

Doc

PS - I just checked the . exe file and it contains the Klez virus. We got that virus at work on one of the teachers computers and it tried to infiltrate the network.

YUP - mysterious Emails with . exe or . scr in the attached files are VERY likely to be virus bearing files that could damage your computer! I *always* delete those files WITHOUT opening them - even the ones that SEEM to come from known sources. If I suspect they MAY be harmless, I still don't open them until I have verified their content with the sender - not worth the risk... :( :{

fricken virus's are rampant

Time to bite the bullet

I've been spoiled having virus-software on my machine at the office, but now that I'm working from home I don't. Guess I'd better get it in gear, eh?

While we have the Norton anti-virus on our home computer, our ISP has a virus program also and we get msgs from them every few days that they have failed to deliver a msg to us because it had a virus that their program could not clean up.

I would not be without an anti-virus at home, even when the ISP has one.

They're not all that good

Just got done rebuilding my HDs after a similar worm or virus rearranged half of my HD to the point that a repartition and reformat was nessesary. I had the latest and greatest update for PC-cillian.

Scanned clean before i had to rebuild. I t was scanning EVERY bit of info in real time too.

Oh well!!

Consider yourselves lucky guys, with the exposure I have I get 10-20 emails a DAY with viruses in them! Most of them from users here on the site.

Everyone can afford $10. 00

The only problem, Bob, is that the McAfee and other virus software is only as good as the latest update. That's why they will sell you one for $10, or even give you a free trial... ;)

Bob... Are you saying that McAfee now gives you "free" updates for life????;)

Free updates for 1 year, after that its $5. 00 per year

I purchase TrendMicro's PCcillin in 1998 for $50. 00 and I still get free internet updates for free.

Thats a real bargain too.

The McAfee/Costco deal in great, check it out :)

I have Norton ani v 2002 and Norton internet security 2002. I have been attacted 19 times this evening by back door trojen 's and worms. I get a log of time, date and originating isp. all incoming and out bound is scanned. I slows the puter up a little but so does putting on a XXXXXX.

It was about $20 after rebate at Costco.

Warning Dumb question coming. How do you delete an email w/o opening it? When you hilight the mail you wish to delete doesn't that open the mail in question? Just wondering, it's the XP home edition OS on a VAIO 1. 2 GHz Celeron. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance. :D
