So I'm talking to my friendly service advisor (diesel talk) in my local dodge dealer, while the monkeys are busy ruining my stupid minivan... ... . as he tells me a tale..... Its about a 2000 truck that the techs were having a problem with the intake temp sensor, after they replaced the sensor 3 times and the obd insisted it is still bad they called Cummins (or some techline), the rep told them to remove the plenum plate and inspect the inside of the intake manifold..... suppodly there is a barrier wall inside with a hole in it, separating the sensors from the rest of the intake area... ... sure enough, the hole wasn't machined all the way, the tech was told by cummins (or whatever techline) to open up the restriction by deburring the hole to the specs (the problem was solved upon the operation)... ... ... any coments?????????

I don't doubt it. Funny thing is, if you use an exhaust brake, the IAT sensor gets carbon all over it from the exhaust being pushed into the intake manifold when the exhaust is "plugged" from the brake. With that said, is seems as though the carbon would not come through the hole in the barrier easily enough to completely coat the IAT and "foul" it. I guess I'll have to look at one sometime.
