I have a problem with my factory fuel guage. When I have driven approximately 410 miles the fuel guage will read quarter of a tank of diesel left. I park the truck for the night and the next morning I get in, start her up and the fuel guage will nosedive to empty. I fill her up and I only put in 26 gallons. I know I have a 35 gallon tank. So do you think the sending unit is going bad or is this just the way dodge made the unit work? Bothers me sometimes so I tend to keep a close eye on the mileage not the fuel guage.

Probably the sending unit in the tank. When my '95 was new we drove from a closed gas station to Page, AZ. It was over 50 miles mostly up hill with a camper loaded. The "ya gonna walk" fuel level warning was on the whole way so we were really sweating it. It took 27 gallons to fill it up! I replaced the sending unit. The "new" one has been on there for over 200K miles and is still pretty accurate as far as Dodge sending units go.

Thanks. I'll do a search on fuel sending units and see how hard/easy it is going to be to fix/replace.

goody--I get to learn more about my truck and how to repair it.

Mine reads exactly like yours does. 4XX miles or 27 gallons, and beyond that you're on your own. Only started doing that in the last 10k or so.

When You Do Go To Replace The Sending Unit Make Sure You Are Almost Empty You Have 2 Straps Holding Your Tank On Its Not That Hard Of A Project Just Have A Jack Handy It Will Help And Dont Forget To Undo The Screws Holding Your Filler Neck In Place Just My 2 Cents
