"According to the Society of Automotive Engineers, in SAE Paper 710813, "The use of good full-flow filtration, combined with bypass lubricating oil filtration, will result in extension of engine wear up to two to three times the wear life obtainable with only good full-flow filtration. Therefore, the use of bypass oil filters results in the overall lowest cost to the engine user. "

Research for the SAE paper included a series of comparative tests made using radioactive tracer wear measurement and component loss techniques to determine the effect of various full-flow and combination full-flow and bypass filter systems on diesel engine piston ring and crankshaft bearings.

The results of these tests support the idea that bypass lube oil filtration combined with good full-flow lube oil filtration result in the lowest engine wear rate and lowest total cost for the engine user. "

'Nuff said! ;) :D
