I did the vac. pump oil leak fix with the seals supplied by CPFF last weekend. He sent me the large seal, and an o-ring. After removing the vac. pump (I couldn't break the ps pump lines to get it all the way out) and looking at the pump and the 'adapter' that goes between the vac. pump and the ps pump, I couldn't find any place for the o-ring.
Now, my vac. pump 'adapter' with contains the seal that I replaced, has an aluminum collar that has to be driven out of the center of the adapter, and then the seal is driven out of this aluminum collar. There is an o-ring between this collar and the adapter, and mine had been 'rolled', it was disfigured and had had a square spot in it where someone had driven it (with the collar) into the adapter incorrectly. Mores interesting yet, the collar and the adapter both had pits and marks that indicated that the collar had been driven into the adapter out of square, disfiguring the material of both pieces.
I called CPFF, on a Sunday afternoon, and talked to him about the o-ring. He said that another fellow had called him the day before, who owned a '96 (mine is a '97), asking the same question. It seems as there may be more than one style of vac. pump that was put on these trucks. Apperently most don't have the aluminum collar (whick holds the dreaded seal) that drives out of the center of the adapter.
Anyway, when I asked him if he could get the o-ring that had been rolled on my truck, he said that if I could get him accurate measurements, he could get the seal, but it would take some time. It seem as though no company in America makes metric sized seals and o-rings, CPFF has to get them through a company which in turn buys them from a place in Holland. Long story short, I ended up putting back the damaged o-ring with the new seal, and all seems to be well... ... . so far.
Anyone else seen anythign familiar to this scenario?
