Mobil-1 grease -- WARNING!!!

I just finished my annual detail job on my truck. Just thought I would pass on a couple of tips that work for me on cleaning the interior.

First of all take the seats out. Just unplug the power seat connection and there are a total of 12 nuts and screws. Four on the center consol (remove it first) and four on each seat. They are a lot easier to clean if they are out of the truck and the carpet is a LOT easier to clean.

The best carpet cleaner I've found is Woolite Heavy Traffic. It beats anything I have ever used from an auto store. Coffee and Coke stains come right out. If there are any bad grease stains, use Goop hand cleaner on them before using the carpet cleaner. Other hand cleaners don't seem to do this job very well.

The heater/AC vents in the dash will pry out with a small screwdriver. Pry the verticle ones from the top. The horizontal ones above the glove box need to be pryed out from the sides toward the middle. Each one of these vents has a longer tab on the side opposite the side you pry. With the vents out you can clean the ducts easy. I use a bottle brush with a shop rag wrapped around it.

If anyone else has some tips on how to make this job easier I would like to hear them.

I hope this helps someone.

Drive to your local top-quality detailer, open your toolbox, pull out your checkbook and write him one for the required amount? #ad

Not so sure that's easier when you consider that the head of the house would throw a BIG fit over the cost. #ad

Most detail shops in our area start at $100+. I can do a lot of cleaning for that money. Besides that leaves more money for the essentials in life ie;goodies for the truck

Great post Joe. one thing I do before starting my cleanup is to take all the loose stuff out of my truck then blast out the interior with 120 psi of compressed air. You'd be amazed how much dust comes out from under the dash and the head liner. Best to do it with a good breeze blowing through the open doors.

Just shows to go ya! If you want to know anything just ask this list! Thanks for that one illflem. I would never have thought of that in hunnerd years. #ad

That's one of the steps in my clean up routine from now on.

To clean the clear plastic instrument lens, spray it with Armor-All, or other brand equivalent, and wipe with a SOFT cloth. It will disappear.

Use a foaming window cleaner like "Coastal". I get it at Auto Zone. This leaves no streaks and gets rid of window spots on the outside.

Windex bites the big one.

I also use "purple stuff" for grease spots in the carpet.

Best "carpet cleaner" I have ever used, and still use, is BlecheWhite whitewall cleaner. Been using it for over 25 years.

Most carpet is made of plastic and BlecheWhite cleans it very well. Test a spot under the seat first.

I haven't had to clean my carpets yet. Won't let anybody eat food in my truck. Haven't spilled any drinks yet, and you must remove your shoes before stepping on the carpet!!

bennettj,

The best white wall cleaner is Spray & Wash. The stuff is unbeleavable on tires. My old carpet in my '95 looks like it's new with using Woolite Heavy Traffic in spite of grand kids spilling things and stepping on the mess. Household cleaners are pretty surprising sometimes. When I ran the fish boat I used Joy to clean the bilge. Just poured it down the galley sink. The engine room smelled lemon fresh and the bilge was really clean, but the Coast Guard got a little suspicious about it.

I like to use Griot's Garage ( www.griotsgarage.com ) Plastic Cleaner and/or Plastic Polish on the instrument bezel. The liquid plastic cleaner seems to repel dust for at least a short duration of time. Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Polish also works very well. #ad
