Apparently they did not restore the floor board metal huh ?. That looks bad in the pictures.
Finally found the picture from 10/2012, I bought the truck 3/2014. And as mentioned only been in the rain maybe twice.

You can see it's a little scale they covered over.

Got side tracked as usual. Working on the interior of my trailer. It was a very quick project less then an hour to put this all in.

Had to finally get around to hanging up my landscape equipment in the trailer.

Got enough Etrack to duplicate this on the garage wall. Im not a landcasper and don't use the trailer for too many landscape jobs but have a few volunteer jobs with our local Habitat for Humanity in May. And going to start working on an old cemetery that has been neglected the past 3 seasons up the road. Makes it super easy.

Think it was around $300 for all the brackets and rail, I picked up extra rail. They come in nice 5' sections so one person install is easy.

The top pic is the latest, I put the backup low but if I drive a mower in that will be in the way.

Need more rake and shovel hooks.

Quite a project TimD! POR products work well for converting/neutralizing rust and recoating for protection. After that throw some Dynamat-type sound deadener on the floors and back wall. You don't have to go overboard, putting more mass in the middle of the panels provides the best benefit versus covering the entire floor and back wall.

Those seats look nice, did you install a Katskin kit? I have the Mist Gray cloth in my '98 but dream of going with new leather someday. I gutted my '98 back in 2014 and added insulation and stereo wiring, I need to redo my headliner and replace A pillar trim to spruce it up again.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have some stuff that came with the carpet kit, it's STP 80mil stuff butyl probably similar to Dynamat or a little lesser brand possibly.

Will pick up some POR-15, hope to get it coated this week.

That POR-15 sounds like some decent stuff.

Product Features:

  • Seals Rust Permanently
  • Paint Directly Over Rust
  • No Need to Remove Rust Before Applying
  • Lead-Free
  • For Metal Substrates Only
I'm not sure where the seat covers are from I tried looking them up, they came that way. They are pretty nice overall.

Once I get this project done I really have to make some time to finish the transmission rebuild.

Where did you purchase your carpet kit? I need to do the same project, as I see some rust starting on my lower seat frames...........

Thanks. I saw that online and wondered about the quality. Is the $95.00 padding worth it? I know we have a LOT of noise to knock down!

I really forget, will go up in the 2nd floor and check it out.

I've had it laying out for a while, nothing else is up there have lots of empty space, so its kinda out of sight out of mind.

From what they describe it was and additional 40mil. I never envisioned mine being that quiet.

Of course when mine was running I had no 4th gear so it was pretty high reving to begin with.

I just did the same project your doing about 2 years ago. I believe I did a write-up on it with some pictures. I was fortunate that I had very minimal rust. I wire-wheeled and sanded what little rust was there and hit it with POR 15. I then covered EVERYTHING in Dynamat. I put it on the floors, walls, back wall, doors, wall cavities on the body panels, door cavities. Everything! I even did the ceiling. I put 2 or 3 layers on the tunnel and floor by the feet and firewall. When I pull the dash, I'll put more in. I then put down the new insulation mat, then new rubber carpet. I am not a fan of carpet in a truck. I believe I have the quietest Cummins in existence (I know, bold statement). It absolutely changed the driving experience. No rattles or ringing going over bumps. Solid "thud" when you close the door.

POR-15 is an awesome product, just a little word of advice though:
Do at least 2 coats
Do not wear anything you like
Wear gloves, but it gets sticky on the gloves
Once the can is open, you can reseal it, but. don't think you'll get the can open again You'll need a can opener to poke a hole
Do not do it within 2 weeks of a formal event (It WILL GET all over you and once dry NOTHING takes it of. NOTHING!)

The project was a major PITA, but well worth it. Good luck

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the info.on POR15, I never pulled the trigger on that too many irons in the fire. The local place chain store wanted $67 a gallon, Amazon was like $45 a gallon, I didn't "need" the truck, all the mouse stuff is contained so the damage has been stopped to the truck. Just another project stalled out by life.

Your post has motivated me to order the POR15 up, I can do that part for sure.

I actually agree on the carpet deal.

My 18 gasser has the work vinyl and rubber floor and I absolutely love it all. It's a very nice set up.

If I did not have it all.already I would have gone rubber mat.

I doubt I will keep this truck long term going to get it fixed up and get the trans done and probably look for a new home for this one.

:):)Sounds like a solid plan. Don't forget to POR-15 the cavities in the rear corners. They are a common area that rusts from the inside out. Usually from a leaking heater core or plugged AC condensation drain. I also put a 5/8 heater hose elbow outside on the condensation drain tube to keep water from running back into the cab and getting the carpet wet. That's where my rust came from. I was just lucky it wasn't too bad. If I waited a little longer, it likely would have been a different story.

I would probably buy the POR-15 in quart sizes so you don't have to open the whole gallon. You may pay a couple extra bucks though. You'll be surprised how far it goes. Btw, it eats through red Solo cups. You can still use them, but not for too long.

Sorry to go back to this, but I cannot emphasize this enough. Lacquer thinner will remove POR-15 while wet, buy nothing removes it once dry, especially on your skin. I had to go to work for over a week covered in the stuff. I'm just glad I didn't scratch my nose.:)

Her is a link to my project. May help a little.

Awesome, thanks for looking that up, did not find it in a common search.

I ordered a qt kit it came with some metal prep and cleaner, was same price as the stuff at the chain store. Will be here Thursday, maybe I will get a coat on by the weekend. The project is really in the way now in both bays of the garage.

Also thanks for the great tips.
