Interior Trim Question

I've noticed that the plastic trim inside my truck is starting to crack and break apart. All the cracks are where the screws are that hold it on. I can see this becoming an expensive problem. Anyone else have this happen to their truck trim? ... ... ... See Ya!... ... ... Racer

Oh YEA

I need to look for a source for trim also. I have tryed Epoxy, didn’t work very well. Mine isn’t just cracked it has broken in three or four places around the headliner. Interior is the last step in my plans I haven’t been putting too much thought into it yet but you are not alone.

Plastic Trim Repair

Yes mine did that too, I have since loosened all the screws on the plastic trim just a bit, made them tight enough to hold it in place but not to distort (bow) the plastic. I have had success repairing plastic trim with cyano glue. I use the green Zap (available at a hobby shop) and the spray accelarator. Just hold the crack together and spray a very light mist of accelarator on the good side, and put the glue on the inside, this type of glue will wick into the joint, and dry when it hits the accelerator. A small piece of fiberglass cloth can also be glued on the inside for extra strength.

Repair method.

I was thinking of something that could be glued on the back side to keep that from happening. I'm an industrial maintenance mechanic and we use some plastic shim stock for alignment on some of our machinery. That stuff is tuff as nails and thin too. I'm going to cut some backup pieces and glue them on the back of the trim over the holes to reinforce them. Haven't figured out what to do about the ones that are already broken though. May try that same thing, after I glue them back together. I'll let ya know how it turns out... ... ... ... ... ... . Later... ... ... ... Racer

Same thing happened to me plus the screws stripped out. Had to replace like 4 pieces (plus buy some paint) for $170 (bought from the dodge dealer) and put in 1 size larger screws. So far no problems with the replacements. Also learned from my previous truck not to use locktite on the screws. That really cracked the plastic.

Well, it's Christmas, hunting season has been in, my computer repair business has been swamped and I'm in the process of having ISDN service put in my home, all that along with working a full time job. That hasn't left much time for anything else, including the Dodge! The way things are going now, I expect it's going to be a couple of weeks yet before I get the time to mess with it. I'm not driving it or using it for anything now so it dosen't matter. I'll get to it sooner or later and when I do, like I said, I'll let everyone know how it comes out. Later... ... ..... Racer
