OK, so what I've learned so far is "don't cheap out" cause it'll bite you in the butt. With that said, should I go ahead and put a billet intermediate in the transmission? How many guys have broken them, and what were you doing? I plan for big power and to use it, but I don't hear to often about broken intermediates. Thanks guys, Buck

I just got a new transmission from Dave Goerend. He told me that I may not need the billet intermediate, but if it does break it shells the guts of the transmission. I felt like it was worth the extra money to protect the investment. Mine doesn't have the billet output. He was out of them, but said if it were to break it wont damage the transmission. It breaks clean and can be replaced without pulling the transmission out.

Thanks. I also talked to dave when I ordered my converter, and he told me pretty much the same thing. I'm just curious how much stress the stocker can take. If guys are breaking them by doing 20psi launches in 4wd, then I may not need one, but if they're breaking them just screwing around on the street, then it does sound like it's a necessity. But it does sound like a pretty good insurance policy...

From what I have been told... ...

The input and output are the "breakables" stock. If you put a billet input in, and a billet output... the weak link is the intermediate. I believe you need a fuse... I will will always leave the output stock. They hold up pretty well under the abuse. What I personally will probably do is get another OD section and if I know I'm pulling, racing etc... have it with me, along with the possible tools to switch it out. I'd rather have the output break, than the intermediate or input.

BUT... . on that same note... I have been told that the intermediate in both Stock AND Billet form have been broken at around the same power level, etc. How they were broken, I was not told...

I dont think a stock itermediate shaft will take many 30psi launches Ive seen a billit piece break at 50psi though. It be a good idea to do it then its done. No worries after that.

When I had my transmission built, my builder had a transmission in the shop with a broken intermediate. He didn't get too in detail when I asked how it happened. He just told me that it was while drag racing. Didn't tell me how much power though.
