I have a cruise control that is driving me nuts!!!! It will not work most days for a while, then after 20 to 45 minutes of driving it will hook up when I push the switch. I searched the formums over the last few days and did a lot of reading. So I replace the brake switch and also replace the trans temp sender because it has set a code in the pcm. These changes didn't seem to help. If anyone has a diagram of everthing involved in the cruise control system I would really like a peek at it. I drive this truck over 4 hours most days and it is getting old!! Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. :) :)

gcarthel,

Try turning the c/c off and on serveral times( 8-10) in a roll without engaging it.

Sometimes it just gets confused?, I think. Also, check under battery on D/S, battery acid might have damaged the hoses there. Hoses my look good but it is a good idea to use a vacuum pump/w/gage.

I have used the on/off before and it worked on mine.

How about a defective/dirty/stickey cruise control button on the steeringwheel. When it drops, does the green light on the wheel stay lit? Does the cruise turn off our cancel?

Mine quit working a couple weeks ago and it turned out to be a hole in the plastic vaccume line where it goes into the rubber boot at the servo.

Thanks again TDR for saving my bacon!!!

Here is the rest of the story. First of all, Thanks everyone for your help, and thanks TDR for being here. This is great... . :D anyway on with the story. I checked and rechecked everything, vacuum, brake switch, and even replaced the servo. Nothing helped. :( I finally decided that I was going to take it to the dealer, and then I started looking for somebody that provided online manuals. http://www.alldata.com/index.html I found this and then remembered that a local garage was also using their service. So I spent the $25 buck for the years subscription and was really impressed with the amount of info for the money. (I think I'm starting to sound like an advertisement :-laf ) I ran all of the diagnostic checks and everthing checked out. I was confused in the first place because it was INTERMITENT, anyway, I cleaned up the connecting pins on the PCM and applied new dieelectric grease to the connection and wa la my cruise works and my auto trans doesn't shift in and out of lockup anymore :D :D Just thought this might help others with the lockup problem and intermitent cruise also. .

Thanks again
