Intermittant fast idale
I have had this same fast idle problem (if it really is a problem) about two or three times now. I replied to a tread on engine idle
that my engine did this on its own, so it should be possible to make it do it without a fast idle kit.
Mine occured similar to what you have decribed: towing at interstate speed over an extended period of time. When I went to park the rig I noticed the idle up to 1100 or 1200 rpm. Tried revving the engine a little to see if it would go away but no luck.
I made a note in my log of the event and thought I would check with the Dodge dealer next time I was in town.
Well, at start up the next morning... normal idle speed and no more problem. This series of events happened, like I said, maybe two or three different times. It hasn't happened again for the past two months.
I don't think its a big deal. These new rigs are run entirely by computers and if you have any expieriance playing with computers you know they get confused sometimes. Call a computer tech and one of the first things he'll ask you to do is shut the thing off and re-boot. Problem gone!!!
Anyway, thats my two cents worth. My pick-up is stock 2002
and now has 11,000 miles on it. My wife and I are spending the winter touring through Mexico and towing a 25' airstream trailer. What a way to break in a new pick-up.
Good luck, and if you find out anything on this glich, let us know.
