Haven't seen any activity on that thread from October/November regarding complaints of intermittant long starter cranking cycles on Cummins "600-Series" engines. Does anyone know if a TSB was ever issued or if our 5-Star buddies have a fix for this condition?

havn't seen a TSB. I have a 1996 and a 2006. My 2006 will start almost immediate on some days and then on others it takes about 3 times 5 - 7 seconds. Unless things have changed I know not to overcrank diesels or youll fry. Take care.

Hey! actually overcrank any vehicle because it fries the starter solenoids. Tell you the truth I have not read the 06 manual. The 1996 that I have says no more than 30 seconds, which is a long time for a vehicle to start. My 06 usually starts in 1-5 seconds the first time, but on occasion it takes 3 times which is what I was referring to. I was not used to that as all my vehicles start easily. If you are attempting to start and you have to crank a long time it could be something else. Take care

The TSB is not out, but if the dealer puts in you ECU part number on Tech Tools, there should be a later revision (flash).

I see what you are saying now Dale. My '04. 5 occasionally takes a bit longer to start, but I'm talking 1-2 seconds not 10-25 seconds. That would drive me nuts.

Thanks for the info sag2.

Not that it does you 05/06 guys any good, but there is one for the 03/04s. Designed for the folks that have had the in-tank lift pump retrofit. I had it done to my 03, not because I needed it, just because I was there and it was available. It is just an ECM update that keeps the lift pump running for approx 30 seconds on "key on" instead of the normal 3 seconds, give or take. Does the 06 in-tank lift pump run longer than about 3 seconds on "key on"? Check it out here. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2005/18-017-05.htm

My '06 Megacab also has a hard time starting. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it does it has been getting progressively worse. The dealer says there is nothing wrong with it. This puzzles me because I also have '06 Quad cab and an '03 Quad cab and niether of them has any starting problems. They crank maybe 3 three times and fire while my Megacab when having the problem cranks about 10 times before it fires.

Mine too

my06 mega cab takes what seems to be a long crank to start, but not all the time, seems like a fuel starvation issue, if it was a gasser, I would think weak coil.

My 06 Megacab had the same problem I found that if you quit cranking and start again

that it would fire. Took the problem to the dealer (Pueblo Dodge Pueblo CO 719-545-6666) they found the same problem with some 05 with 6 speed trans. they reprogrammed the computer and it seems to have cured this problem. Might have

your dealer give them a call Service managers name is Mike Minnick
