Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Intermittant throttle response

Well I was driving down the road the other day cruisin at about 40 came to an incline and pushed the pedal and I got nothing!! kept pushing until I basically hit the floor and then it seemed to snap out of it and started going!!! Since then it has happend 4 or 5 more times! I changed the fuel filter today still same symptoms. Kind of like a dead spot in the middle of the pedal but not all the time!! Fuel press gauge is on the fritz at the moment so don't know if there is a pressure drop. Thinking maybe it's the TPS or something of that nature! Any suggestions!! Thanks Guys!!

Have you checked for codes?

There have been quite a few threads on this issue lately. I'm due for a new VP44 at Piers' on Monday.

I had same problem and it was a timing problem with the injection pump. Dealer replaced pump and problem corrected. There have been several post on this problem recently.

24V-DSL, is this your choice, or is this a Piers' bomb? If your VP44 is dead, how many miles?

Sounds to me like the out-put sensor on the OD unit of the transmission. If you can check codes I believe it is 1560. It would probobly be that or the TPS. Change out the output sensor first, they are only $28-32. 00.



You can try taking it out and cleaning it (it has a magnetic tip) It is located on the drivers side on the OD unit. You can get it out with a large crescent wrench.

check your codes, you will probably see 0216 which means it is the injection pump going south.

Hey, Shelby....

No, it's not a bombed VP. I'm my own warranty station, and this pump at 70K hopefully has another 400 miles in it to get to Piers.

Thanks for your help guys!! I tried the code thing and did come up with PCU-1693 and PECU-0216 wich looks like it has to do with the timing on the pump!! So I'll bring it in this week and let the circus begin!!
