I recently installed a westach combo boost/egt gauge. It seems to function well, or normally I should say in the first part of my commute.

If I am in traffic, and the temps drop, the gauge will not respond to high temp situations well. It will read 500-600 instead of 1200 to 1300. Is this seen often or am I missing something?

The westach instructions did say I believe that the wires could be lengthened without any adverse function. I did so and also made sure to solder and wrap/isolate the connections very securely.

Any ideas?

I have the same guage on my 95 12v. In normal traffic, just cruising on the highway, it will read around 500-600. I only hit high temps above 1000 if I am either towing a load up a hill or am empty and quickly accelerating. I mounted my sending unit before the turbo, temps are cooler after the turbo. You did not say where you mounted the sending unit. I bought mine from Geno's garage, they have great customer service. If you got yours there, I suggest you contact them and see what they can do for you.

I guess I will have to call Geno's. I mounted the unit in the exhaust manifold before the turbo as per the instructions. As I said, it seems to work fine sometimes and then just act up later.

Yea you are not suppose to solder the leads on the temp probe wires. You can extend them with wire of the same type, just use butt connectors. Or you could order the extension wires from geno's.
