Intermittent Warning bell

Any thoughts on this would be welcome. For the last three or four days when driving a warning bell wild would ding once or twice than nothing for 5 to 10 minutes.

then it does again. there were no dash warning lights that stayed on but I think the light for the overdrive on/off blinked so fast I could not read it for sure but it was right in that spot.



Stopped at the dealer and they hooked up the computer but it had no codes.

They said if it continued to do this to bring it back and they would start looking and I could see the dollar signs in their eyes. :{



All the gauges were right were they normally run, the motor sounded normal and and it shifted like always. Does this sound like a ground problem some place, maybe the ground for the automatic transmission and if so where is that located.

Mine did that about a year ago. I happened to catch the light once, and it was the "lamp out" light. Never figured out what caused it, but it stopped doing it after driving it a few days, and hasn't come back. I never found any burned out bulbs.

Check the tail lamps. Common problem on the '03's. The lamp sockets seem to not make good connections and heat up melting the plastic socket. I had the same issue until I changed the light bars.

Sound familiar, same thing I went through, this what I did. (By the way I did replace one tail light bar but the problem continued. )

Water Lover suggested I go to Source Auto in the Portland Or area and have the rig scanned. On the way to the shop the chime sounded off six time but on the fifth time the fuel light lit up and the needle went down to 1/4 tank and then back to 3/4 full. A clue finally. They scanned the rig and found nothing, but they thought maybe the fuel sending unit might be the cause of the chimes because of what happen on my trip to there shop. We unplugged the power to the unit and I headed home. So far no chime, I'm going to run it this way a while to make sure the chimes stay off. Then if all is quiet I will clean the plugs and plug them in and see if the chimes come back or not. If the do I will install a new sending unit, if no chimes come back I will assume the plugs needed cleaning and hope the problem is fixed. We will see.

New sending unit going in Monday or Tuesday. When I run the rig with the unit plugged in I get chimes, unplugged no chimes. I'm pretty sure the new sending unit will be the fix. The guys at Source Automotive think so also.

The plug is on the driver side, on top of the tank. You can get to it by reaching over the back tire and unplugging it. There is a red tab that needs to be pulled back before you can unplud it. Give it a try, the sending unit may be your problem too.

I want to thank all of you that replied on this thread.

Today I loosened, cleaned all the ground wiring fastened to the body and then refastened them tight.



After a trip to town to get a small set of those Torx sockets I removed and looked the taillight setups over and all looked clean with no sign of rust or corrosion.



Hopefully this will solve the problem. Only time will tell.



I will keep all the ideas and suggestions on file if it crops up again.

The problem with my lights was the plastic base on the bulbs. The heat and vibration worked the wire contacts into the plastic enough that I got the chiming sound and light sometimes. I replaced all the rear bulbs with glass base bulbs and have had no problem since.

I have never had any type warning light come on the dash, just the ding,ding. If it does it again I will replace those bulbs with glass ones like you did.

well I'm back to square one. changed out the fuel sending unit and still have the chime going off without any lights on the dash coming on. It's got me, guess I'll keep checking things out in the hopes I can find the problem. think I'll change the fuel filter sence the only light I've seen was a fuel gauge light flash on and off.

I couldn't figure out what was causing the chime to go off and nobody at the stealership would help. Soooooo I found the little sucker behind the insterment cluster and disabled it. It's about the size of a cap on a quart of oil, with a hole in it. The size of hole is about the size ball point pen refill. I stuffed some foam rubber in the hole till it wouldn't take any more. I thought if I cut the little sucker out of the pannel, it might get the computer mad at me. So it still works but it would have to be in you ear to hear it. I didn't see any other dingers in there so I'm hoping there are no more to find.
