I'm not looking for an answer to this strange function on my '05 truck, just commenting. Most cars and trucks now come with intermittent wipper controls. First setting you get a swipe every few minutes and as you advance the control it comes sooner. Well mine I would call random wippers. rather then getting one swipe per setting I may get one, or two or three or four. It happens sooner as I advance the control, but you never know how many swipes it will make. I suppose I could change the control, but until it quits I'll take the random.

My 2005 does the same. Is seems to be random and I get a couple of wipes one time and then back to the normal pattern. I thought something was wrong with the timing.

There should be a switch that tells the motor that the wipers are in the normal park position. It sounds like that switch is failing. My 06 has done it a few times before. I'm not sure if anything can be adjusted or not...

After trying to clean the switch, put a new switch in, a cheap remaned motor from the local auto parts store, the only thing that I found to fix this was to go to the dealer and buy the wiper motor "module" which is nothing more than the motor and linkage. It was around $200+/- and has been fine since. Mine went from random acts of wiping to just plain stopping in the middle of the windshield when I turned them off.

My Jeep has a sensor under the rear view mirror that when the wipers are in an automatic mode, will only sweep the wipers when it sees rain on the windshield... the jeep has an upper grade of interior over my 05 dually... . which has normal wipers... . My BIL's dually has the same package as my jeep... so I can only assume you have that upper grade of accessories...

My 2005 did that. Turns out it was the wiper transmission that fixed it. Tried a multifunction switch at first but that didn't fix it.

Two things, first take the wiper motor housing out, take the unit apart, I believe there are three screws. Inside you'll find what looks like copper coils with grease all packed around them. These are the electrical contacts for the delay feature. Clean out the grease, scuff up the copper, reapply fresh di-lectric grease and re-asssemble. What happens is the grease picks up small particles of metal and allows current to pass across all the contact areas causing the problem. I found the repair in an older TDR journal and here. It works and has fixed mine, I did this about 50,000 miles ago. Still works great. I have found the multifunction switch issue causes the turn signals to act up, but it would not hurt to take it apart and clean the contacts there also.
