Did Cummins use International to cast our blocks? Have I been living under a rock and never heard about a Cummins/International joint venture?

Behind the timing gear housing there is a International truck symbol cast into the block. Just above the crank, behind the cam gear and "made in USA" on the timing gear housing...

I've posted several times that an alternative place to get parts is the IH/Case tractor dealer.

thats the good one from what i read and guys really like the international cast heads they say they are a little thicker. can stand a little more porting.

I knew about the Cummins/Case joint venture (My wifes cousin worked at Consolidated Diesel in North Carolina) making backhoe and dodge truck engines.

I didn't know the Case/International Harvester connection. Once you get the case/IH connection it can makes sense to see a International truck symbol on my block. This begs the question, does the power-stroke block have a International symbol or does International cast the Ford symbol into the power-stroke block to distance themselfs from it?

th PS will have the Navistar logo on it. Navistar is what is left of the IH truck division.

The Cummins/IH venture is on the Ag. side.

Tenneco (case's parent company) bought out the IH ag division and the truck side became Navistar(on its own)

So what block number would the Case/IH block be? I didn't know they put those ones in Dodges from the factory . . .

If I'm not mistaken, Case-International is a subsidiary of Fiat. Their relationship
with Cummins has recently ended, (at least in Europe) leading to speculation that Cummins may not be included in the Rams down the road. Fiat has their own diesels.

Yup, Case is all done with Cummins. We started to notice "Iveco" cast on the brackets and water pumps and stuff. The newer engines look less and less like a Cummins. :{

Too bad, I used to look like a hero after reading on here and then going in and diagnosing a strange problem on a machine. ;) :-laf

Parent company of CaseIH is CNH - Case New Holland. Majority holder of CNH is Fiat. This is from their web page:

Case New Holland (CNH) is a world leader in the agricultural and construction equipment businesses.

Created in 1999 through the merger of New Holland N. V. and Case Corporation, CNH today comprises the heritage and expertise of three agricultural brands (Case IH; New Holland Ag; and Steyr) and three construction equipment brands (Case Construction Equipment; New Holland Construction; and Kobelco).

CNH is a majority-owned subsidiary of Fiat S. p. A. , the parent company of the Fiat Group, a public company whose capital stock is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange (FIA. MI).

The Fiat Group is a leading Italian corporation that has been focused on the automotive sector since its foundation over 100 years ago. In addition to the CNH brands, it manufactures the renowned Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia, and Maserati cars, and Iveco trucks and commercial vehicles. It recently expanded to include the Chrysler group in North America.

yup you're right. that just shows how long I have been out away from the farm.

CASE and Cummins had joint venture begin in about 82 IIRC, Consolidated Diesel Corp. Then in 83 or 84 CASE bought IH to make CASE IH. Then 5 or 6 yrs ago CASE and New Holland merged to form CNH Global N. V. In almost all of the construction equipment they have moved away from Cummins to the European engines, this also happened in the agriculture equipment that is built over seas. most of the ag. equipment that is built in the U. S. is still using Cummins engines. On a side note we have not had an increase of engine trouble with the Iveco platform.

When I was a kid in high school, I worked for a feed and implement dealership. We had IH, New Holland, and Farmhand. That was the early 70s and they were all U. S. companies. Now, all foreign owned. Parts for my old Oliver tractor now come from the AGCO dealer. Progress, I guess...
