2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Interpret My Rearend...... No, Really

So far, i'm guessing the LS is Limited Slip and I know the gear ratio.



What else to those digits mean to me?

The 3. 54 does mean you have 3. 54's. And the LS does mean limited slip.





Maybe the other numbers correspond to some part of the BOM for the axle. Check and see if they match in anyway.



If its the axle in the truck in your sig, it should be a Dana 70.

605786 is not a BOM that I see listed on any Dana info I have.



There's



605784 CHRY 60 REAR 1996-96 1/2 D2500

605787 which is CHRY 70 REAR 1996-96 1/2 D2500



No 605786.



Otherwise, 3. 55 and Limited Slip, but that's pretty easy to tell based on those #s you listed.

what i'm curious about is the fact that all of the ring and pinion options i've looked at list D70- U and D70- HD and I need to know what this rear would be in those terms. I need to get these gears ordered and back on the highway. I need to call one of the vendors and ask them but school just started and I haven't had time with the work schedule.

What exactly are you looking for?



Plugging 605786 into http://www2.dana.com/expert/wc.dll?cvsp~debill~ says its a CHRY_70R_Ram. As said above you have a Dana 70.



If you go to www.ringpinion.com and plug in your vehicle (Dana) application (D70) and ratio (3. 54) it will give you the part number you need at least for their site.



According to http://www.differentials.com/pdfs/14.pdf if you are looking for a 3. 54 gearset it should be Dana part # 72168-5X.



From what I have read the gears for D70s are the same but the carrier bearings are larger in the D70HD.

You nailed it. It's the installation kit that I needed to differentiate between the HD and U axles for. My schedule has killed me this week. I barely got to check this, let alone order gears. Thanks for the help guys.



I see now that they have a regular 70 app.
