Question for The Electricians

Ok, I have one more question about my Intrepid transmission project and then I promise not to post anymore on the topic.

Bought a used transmission the other day for my 97 Intrepid. I have done many manuals before, but have never swapped out an auto. Anything special that should be done before or after I get it in? I was thinking of replacing all of the shaft seals now while it is sitting on the bench, but dunno if that is necessary or wise. The new/used one has 90k on it.

Intrepid

Yes, definitely replace the front and rear seals and change the filter. Probably need to adjust the bands while you are at it. Haven't had any experience with Intrepid but normally on an automatic, you have to put the converter on the transmission and align it with the oil pump etc. then install as unit. bg

This trans has NO BANDS, do not try to adjust anything. Changing the axle seals will require removal of the differential unit and re-preloading the diff bearings, don't do it. There is a heater hose, actually a metal tube that is retianed by the top two bellhousing bolts. These two bolts will be the most time consuming part of the project. When I do one of these trannies, I have a lift and remove the ENTIRE exhaust syasten as one piece. I don't know how you can acomplish this on jack-stands. Sometimes the axles refuse to come out of the hubs, this is ok, just seperate the lower ball joint and you can get enough room to get the trans out.
